Set Apart To Serve

"Set Apart to Serve has developed tools and training for congregations around the essential experiences that lead youth to consider and pursue church work.

Parents: Examples that you set for your child, such as attending Divine Service and Bible Study or Sunday school weekly provide a wonderful foundation upon which to build their faith. As parents, you have an opportunity to observe your child’s interest in the church—and possible interest in church work—firsthand. Do your children initiate conversations about what church workers do? Are they enthusiastic about attending VBS, retreats and other gatherings? Do they show respect and appreciation for church workers?

Set Apart to Serve (SAS) has developed resources for parents specifically designed for different age groups: Birth to 12 years old, 12 to 14 years old, and 14 to 18+ years old.  Take a look at the materials available. You might just have a future church worker in your home!

In Our Churches

Peace, Palm Desert, CA

We praise God as His family gained a new member at Peace Lutheran Church of the Desert. Miss Elaine, 87 years old, was baptized into the family of Christ by Pastor James Bowes. May she continue to grow in the Christian faith and may the Lord Almighty bless her and keep her throughout her new life in Jesus!

Shepherd of the Canyon, Gold Canyon, AZ

Shepherd of the Canyon Lutheran Church, a new church start, is already celebrating a new Activity Center space! The congregation was surprised when an additional unit in the strip mall they are using for worship became available. Through their hard work and dedication, as well as support from the English District and some congregational partners, they were able to take advantage of this opportunity.  We pray for God’s continued favor on this congregation and that their outreach plans be successful and fruitful for His Glory!

Shepherd of the Mountains,

Pinetop, AZ

Shepherd of the Mountains Lutheran Church recently hosted Life Line Health Screening. Life Line Health Screening is the “leading provider of annual screenings for heart, stroke and other chronic diseases.” Preventative diagnostics tests can detect serious conditions early and help avert disease progression.

Life Line provided all the beds, privacy screens, and everything else required for this event. Kudos to the Shepherd of the Mountains congregation for encouraging their community to be proactive in their healthcare and for coordinating this important effort. They certainly demonstrated how they care for the welfare of their community—physically in addition to spiritually.

Prince of Peace, Mesquite, NV

The saints of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church provided refreshments and school supplies for the 2024-2025 teachers, staff and administration of Mesquite Elementary School. This has become a tradition to show their gratitude and support for those who provide a safe and encouraging environment for children entrusted to them by the community.

Calvary, Mechanicsburg, PA

Seven LWML/LAS members from Calvary Evangelical Lutheran Church delivered 50 hygiene kits, 48 pillowcase dresses, and a $200 Ladies Aid Society donation for shipping to Orphan Grain Train. Members toured their facility and joined in devotions before heading home. OGT expressed their thanks which we are passing on to the many members (young and old) who donated, sewed and packed all the items delivered.

LCMS U

As the fall semester begins at the University of Arizona, Campus Pastor M. Todd Zill joined the members of Faith Lutheran Church & Iglesia Luterana Santa Trinidad (a satellite worship site of Faith) in wishing a farewell to CTSFW seminarian Samuel Ledford and gifting one of Faith’s new members, Ian Tucker, a twenty-year-old stationed at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, with a copy of the Treasury of Daily Prayer. Both young men, though not “college” students per se, are nonetheless a big part of the LCMS U Arizona community. Samuel currently serves on the Arizona Lutheran Campus Mission Society while Ian is looking forward to being involved with Tucson area students during his time of service at the base. This is a healthy reminder that not all young people choose the same vocational tracks following high school and we pray for God's continued guidance in their lives.

Lutheran Summer Music

Download a new FREE arrangement from Lutheran Summer Music 2024 by Anne Krentz Organ: The Ash Grove for a solo instrument with keyboard accompaniment. The Ash Grove is a theme and variations based on the beloved Welsh folk tune and is this year’s installment in the LSM Hymn Tune Project.
