The Metro South Chamber and Eastern Bank held the 23rd Annual ATHENA Award program this past Friday.
"This important award honors an exceptional individual who has achieved excellence in his/her business or profession; has served the community in a meaningful way; and has assisted women in reaching their full leadership
potential."
The 23rd Annual ATHENA Award recipient is Sheila Sullivan Jardim, Executive Director at the MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board. Sheila Sullivan-Jardim is the Executive Director of the MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board, a 24 member, business driven organization that brokers education and training programs throughout a ten-town region. Providing leadership for sector initiatives driven by labor market information, she approaches each day as an opportunity to grow and think beyond the traditional scope.

Leadership is a roll that Sheila readily accepts in her personal and professional life; operating through consensus by examining all points, she has successfully led teams for grant programs, community partnerships and volunteers resulting in positive solutions. Leading a staff of 15 professionals, she has built a team that is responsive to customers, the community and each other.

In her current position, she has increased the financial assets of her agency to more than $3.2 million during her tenure through donations, grants and annual appeals. Managing over 32 different funding streams from federal, state and private sources to comprise an average annual budget of $5 million dollars, Sheila has developed sustainable partnerships with funders and community collaborations for both proposal and program implementation. Acquiring property that has become the Center for Workforce Development, she implemented a regional training center for employers and jobseekers that serves hundreds annually.

Prior to her position at MassHire Greater Brockton Workforce Board, Ms. Sullivan-Jardim spent over 20 years in higher education administration and as an entrepreneur, started her own business in Grant Writing, GrantConnections. Earning her bachelor’s degree from UMass Amherst, she obtained a Master’s Certificate for Women in Government and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the McCormick Institute at UMass Boston. Sheila is active in her local community of Carver, has been married to her husband Bruce for 35 years, and they have three adult children and one beautiful granddaughter.

Please join our Brockton community in celebrating the Class of 2021 and Adopt a graduate, and show them how very proud we are of their accomplishments ~ now until the end of July 2021.

Due to the events of Covid-19, the Class of 2021 has missed out on many things that shape the high school experience - sporting events, theater and music productions, proms - all things that they have waited for with joyful anticipation.

This could be a story of negativity, but it most certainly is not. The students of the Class of 2021 have faced this disappointment as a challenge, and met it with grace, positivity and optimism. Our future is bright because it is held in the hands of these resilient students!

The Bird Serenade
Each morning, my window slightly open, I wake up to the bird serenade in the dim morning light.

...a daily reminder of these delicate beings that share our earth...their chirps and songs both beautiful and powerful in sheer volume.

"A bird does not sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."
~Chinese Proverb

"Birds sing after a storm; why shouldn’t people feel as free to delight in whatever remains to them?" ~ Rose Kennedy

"Keep a green tree in your heart and perhaps the singing bird will come."
~Lois Lowry

"Wakefulness is not a destination but a song the human heart keeps singing, the way birds keep singing at the first sign of light." ~Mark Nepo
They thrive in the shade of their trees, they soar through the open skies, they sing their morning song ... these that are so small, so frail. Even the smallest can have a tremendous impact in this world, if they are many.
~ Jacquie
