Savannah, GA, September 1, 2022 - Live Oak Public Libraries invites you to visit your local library to get a free library card during Library Card Sign-up Month in September.

Library Card Sign-up Month is a national initiative of the American Library Association (ALA) that celebrates the power of free access to information and resources, like new books, technology, and educational programs. Libraries offer a variety of activities to spark creativity and generate interest in reading and lifelong learning. A library card allows people to pursue their dreams, explore new interests, and discover their voice.

“Libraries empower individuals to take the next step towards achieving their goals. A library card is the key to open the door to opportunities for all ages to learn, explore, discover, and create,” said Lola Shelton-Council, Interim Library Executive Director.

Libraries offer much more than books. You can check out laptops and Wi-Fi hotspots, get passes to Skidway Park and Telfair Museums, or enjoy a family movie night - all for free.

With your library card, you can connect with digital resources online from anywhere to get help with homework, build job skills, learn a new language, or just relax and stream a show.

Library cards are free for anyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Georgia. A library card gives you access to more than 11 million items at 300 partner libraries across the state as well as a variety of digital resources available online anytime. You can also apply for a digital-only account for instant access.

And the Student PLAY program gives public school students automatic access to library resources using their student lunch number just like a library card. And there are no overdue fines on PLAY accounts.

Whether you visit your library in person or online, your free library card offers so many benefits. To sign up for a library card or to learn more about the library’s resources and services, visit your local library or go online to liveoakpl.org.
