Meet Zachary and Monica Carling! They serve our Kindergarteners at 9:30 and have been attending Trinity for a little over a year. Zachary and Monica met while attending the college group at their former church in Roseville. Monica was an accounting major, and Zachary was a food science major. Their friendship grew over several years before blossoming into a romance. They were married in 2022, and soon after, Zachary got accepted into medical school at California Health Science University, based in Clovis.
They were unsure where to attend church and God intervened.
Cameron Fong, one of our Trinity elders, was roommates in college with a man who later became an elder at the Carlings' church, Grace Bible Church of Roseville. The elder in Roseville, along with some old college roommates of Zachary, told the Carlings about Trinity and Cameron Fong. On their first Sunday at Trinity, they felt like they had found a church home. They joined the Young Marrieds group and signed up to help in Children’s Ministry. And we are glad they did!
Zachary was raised in the church as a PK (Pastor's Kid). He learned about the Lord both at home and at church. When Zachary was 13, he was diagnosed with sarcoma. He was surrounded by talented doctors and endured grueling hospital visits. Today, Zachary is cancer free. This experience helped him decide he wanted to become a doctor and help others.
Zachary eventually came to understand that his relationship with the Lord wasn’t where it should be. He knew about Jesus, but Jesus wasn’t real in his life. After another tough season in his life, Zachary attended a conference with his mom and after the sessions, he spoke to a brother in Christ in the church parking lot. During that conversation, God made it clear to him there was nothing he could do to earn his salvation and that God freely and eagerly grants salvation through the sacrifice of Christ.
Monica is bilingual and attended a Spanish-speaking church for years before attending the Roseville church where she met Zachary. Although Monica grew up in the church, she thought it wasn’t necessary for her to be saved since she read, prayed, and answered the questions correctly in Sunday School. However, watching her two older brothers fall away from God when they also grew up in the church, Monica was determined not to let that happen to her. While attending a VBS at 12 years old, a teacher asked the class if they truly believed Jesus had died for their sins and risen from the dead. At that moment, the Lord softened her heart and made her see the sinful life she had been living. Monica raised her hand and said yes, she believed! An elder and she discussed what she had confirmed, and he prayed with her and right then and there.
A few years after being saved, her mom took note that Monica was not growing in her faith. The Lord put on her mom’s heart to go to an English-speaking church so she could better understand the Lord’s Word, and it was at Grace Bible that Monica grew more in her knowledge and love for the Lord.
It is so fun to see Zachary and Monica teach on Sundays. The kindergarteners sit on a colorful carpet, while Zachary plays worship songs for the kids on his ukulele. The kids have huge smiles on their faces, matching their teachers. The lessons the Carlings present are received very well. The kids are so blessed to have them as their teachers. Thank you, Zachary and Monica, for serving the children at Trinity. We are blessed by you.
