College Visit Tour
Visiting a college/university campus is a critical factor when it comes to determining which ones can be the best fit.

Earlier this month, I had the pleasure of touring two universities in the Pacific Northwest, Gonzaga University and Eastern Washington University.

Well-known for their Division 1 basketball prowess, Gonzaga University in Spokane is a private Catholic, Jesuit university with a population of just over 5,000 students. But beyond their March Madness reputation, the school’s academics are most impressive. From the Comprehensive Leadership Program that enables students of any major to minor in innovative Leadership Studies, to their schools of Engineering and Applied Science, Nursing, Education, Business and more. They have a well-established Performing Arts Center and even students who are not majoring in performing arts can qualify for arts scholarship. Student musicians can join the renowned Bulldog pep band, which performs from the stands and travels to all Bulldog’s away games as well as the WCC Conference and NCAA Tournament. Gonzaga is also recognized as a college with one of the highest rates of students participating in Intramural Sports. Did we mention the Golf team? Debate team? Study abroad programs? They’re all here. Freshman and Sophomores are required to live on campus, which enables them to immerse themselves in student life. Plus, getting around the area is a cinch as the university participates in Spokane Transit Universal Transit Access Pass (UTAP) Program, which means students can use their ZAGCARD to ride the bus for free.
Sidenote: While in Italy earlier this year, I came across the study abroad campus of Gonzaga, which is just a few blocks from the Duomo and the historic center of Florence, for those who may be considering study abroad programs.
Gonzaga University
Eastern Washington University
Eastern Washington University is a public university in Cheney, which is just a ½ hour’s drive from Spokane. Boasting more than 10,000 students, this Division 1 school has been named one of the nation’s Colleges of Distinction specifically for Business, Engineering, Nursing and Education. EWU has a beautiful and impressive 300-acre campus and their top majors include Biology, Business, Psychology, Dental Hygiene and Engineering. EWU has good metrics and success rate, with 7 out of 10 students gaining internship experience before they graduate. Unusual for a public university but great in my opinion, is that (like Gonzaga) Freshman and Sophomores are required to live on campus. Buses provide a free and easy transportation option for getting to and from downtown.

What else makes EWU stand out? A beautiful and easily navigated campus, extensive study abroad opportunities, lots of Intramural and Club Sports, a great dining hall and of course, the cost. EWU’s in-state tuition and fees are the lowest of any public university in Washington. Additionally, they are part of the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) which helps out-of-state students in the region lower the cost of tuition and and is very competitive with many public East Coast options as well.

PCCI has visited 58 campuses to date in 14 states so far, in addition to researching hundreds more throughout the U.S., to bring you as much in-depth insight as possible.

"Highly recommend PCCI! We hired PCCI during my daughter’s sophomore year of HS. To me the college process seemed very overwhelming, and I didn’t know where to start. Over the past 3 years, Nod has worked with our daughter to narrow down her choices, schedule tours, reach out to admissions and coaches, schedule interviews, review essays and applications and then guided her on when to apply. I didn’t realize how important the timing of all of these steps were. I cannot say enough great things on how amazing Nod and PCCI’s services have been to our family. My daughter was accepted to all the schools she applied and she was recruited and signed at her top choice. Thank you Nod for all you have done to help Samantha with this process."
