Lighthouse Drive Culvert Repair
The Village will have a contractor temporarily repairing the failed cross culvert on Lighthouse Drive just south of Shoops Park golf course. This will take place starting on September 3. The repair is estimated to last for one week. Due to the road being narrow, it is anticipated that the road will be closed during the day for the safety of the workers and vehicular traffic. The contractor will make every attempt to open the road to vehicle traffic after each workday when it doesn’t compromise public safety. Every effort will be made to allow school traffic to be utilized for the morning commute. More than likely the afternoon commute will be closed.
Safety Tips from Chief Sharrett
Safety Reminders:
Summer is a busy crime time, even here in quiet Wind Point. If you are going to be gone for any length of time lock up, notify your neighbors, and let the Village Police know so we can do a Vacation Check for you.
I can’t repeat this enough - IF YOU SEE SOMETHING, SAY SOMETHING. We would rather get a call and investigate something to find out it was nothing than have a resident second guess themselves and not call us just to find out later that it was something. We are here for you.

Don't Pass a Stopped School Bus! Safety Reminders
With schools back in session please make sure to be ready for extra congestion on the streets as school buses make their routes, kids ride to school on their bikes and parents hurry to drop their kids off before work.
The National Safety Council has provided a number of tips to keep in mind on transportation safety.
For Walkers:
- Walk on a sidewalk and if one is not available make sure to walk facing traffic.
- Before crossing the street make sure to stop and look left, right and left again to see if cars are coming.
- Make eye contact with drivers before crossing, and always cross streets at intersections.
For Bike Riders
- Ride on the same side of the road with traffic and in a single file.
- Come to a complete stop before crossing the street; walk the bike across the street.
- Make sure you and your child always wear a properly fitted bike helmet.
For Bus Riders
- Parents should go to the bus stop with their children to teach them the proper way to get on and off the bus.
- Teach your children to stand 6 feet (or three giant steps) away from the curb or road.
- If your child must cross the street in front of the bus, teach them to walk on the side of the road until they are 10 feet ahead of the bus; your child and the bus driver should always be able to see each other.
For Drivers
- Obey school zone speed limits and follow your school's drop off procedures.
- Make eye contact with children who are crossing the street.
- Never pass a bus loading or unloading children.
- The area 10 feet around the bus is the most dangerous for a child. Stop far enough back to allow them to safely enter and exit the bus.
A few simple steps and precautions can go a long way to prevent accidents.
