Unlocking Success!

Elevate Your Business Network at the

BABC OC's Dynamic Networking Events!

A note from the BABC OC President

Dear BABC OC Members and Friends,

Hello and happy Autumn! The season’s chill and the scents of pumpkin spice are all around us in Southern California – it’s a time of transformation indeed.

I’m thrilled and honored to step in as the newly elected President of our vibrant BABC Orange County as of July 2023. A warm shoutout to our past President, Lee Evans, for his invaluable contributions and leadership. Together with our dynamic Executive Director, Jacquie Blair, and our dedicated board, I’m eager to further our mission—fostering connections, bridging gaps, and making our world a friendlier place.

So, a bit about me—I’m a native of Zambia, raised in South Africa with my UK roots running deep and strong. All four of my grandparents were born in the UK and my family is originally from the Loch Lomond area in Scotland–proud members of the Buchanan Clan. In 1997, my family and I planted our roots here in the USA and have called it our home ever since.

Our Board has been on their toes, sketching out a series of engaging events aimed at bolstering trade between the UK and Orange County, and bringing unique learning and community initiatives to the forefront. Check out our calendar of events—we have some exciting plans brewing!

Don’t miss out on our upcoming events on October 4th and our Christmas Luncheon at Hilton Costa Mesa! Bring along a friend or a colleague; we promise a good time! Also, a gentle nudge to grab your Early Bird tickets—they’re flying off the shelves!

Jacquie, our Executive Director, is keeping us all in the loop with regular updates. Avoid any FOMO and register for the events at the earliest.

We’re all ears! Let us know your thoughts, preferences, and any suggestions you have. Feel free to drop a line to Jacquie, any Board members, or me—we value your opinion.

A big thank you to all our new and renewing members for your continued support. Leverage the BABC-OC to expand your networks and business opportunities this busy fall and festive season.

Looking forward to mingling and catching up at our upcoming gatherings!

With heartfelt thanks,

Jennifer Timm

Whether you are new to Orange County or have been here a while, there are things you need to know to ensure success with your tax planning, immigration status, and current and future finances. Navigating the immigration laws, establishing your credit history, understanding the taxation system, and oh, what to do with that UK pension you left behind? While these issues may seem separate, your decisions about one issue, may negatively, or positively, impact one of the other areas.

This is your chance to get your questions answered from a panel of experts in currency transfer, tax, immigration law, banking and UK pensions.

Some questions you will have answered:

  • Can I transfer a UK pension plan to the United States?
  • What options should I have in the UK to draw income from my pension at retirement?
  • What has happened to the UK’s Lifetime Allowance Tax Charge?

  • Do I have to declare my worldwide assets and/or worldwide income when I file my tax return?
  • I will only stay in the US for a short period of time; can I claim some tax back when I leave?
  • I want to transfer some money from Europe to my US bank account; do I have to declare something

  • Now that I'm here, how quickly can I get a Green Card?
  • How difficult is it to change employers?

Join us at the Newport Beach Yacht Club for networking at 5:30pm. The panel discussion will start at 6:30pm.

Complimentary hor d'oeuvres and one drink ticket included thanks to our friends at CURRENCIES DIRECT.

The next US/UK Small and Medium Enterprise Dialogue will take place on Thursday, October 5, 2023, in Indio, California.

The event is part of a regular Dialogue which was established in 2018 to foster US-UK economic collaboration, specifically designed for smaller businesses. The last two Dialogues took place in Edinburgh/Scotland and Boston/MA. The event is organized in partnership between the US Department of Commerce and the British Embassy in Washington and Consulate in Los Angeles. A number of relevant US and UK officials are expected to attend. This event is slightly special as the hosts are the Cabazon band of Cahuilla Native Americans.

This invitation is for SME stakeholders from the United States and United Kingdom only. RSVPs are accepted on a first-come, first-serve space available basis. If you feel that it is valuable, please consider attending. The event will be a great opportunity to meet with UK and US government officials and network with like-minded UK and US SMEs.

BritishAmerican Business Publishes its Policy Agenda for a Dynamic US-UK Economic Partnership

12 September 2023

Contact: Dominic Parker, Senior Communications & Media Manager

Today, BritishAmerican Business (BAB) has published its Policy Agenda for the year ahead, ‘Recommendations for a 21st Century US-UK Economic Partnership.’ The Policy Agenda sets out the top issues that will help deepen economic integration between both countries and closely reflects the ambitions and commitments set out in the Atlantic Declaration.

The Policy Agenda includes six main themes each with its own set of recommendations for policymakers. These include: Digital Transformation, Aerospace & Defense, Clean & Sustainable Energy, Digital Skills, Competition & Regulation and Trade & Investment.

The workstreams that will flow from these priority areas in the months ahead will allow BAB to focus on the biggest issues affecting transatlantic businesses whilst also tracking and assessing the pledges made by both governments in the Atlantic Declaration.
