September News on the Route 7 Corridor Improvements Project

Issue 52 | September 2023

Along about seven miles of Route 7, we're adding a third lane and shared-use paths in each direction, building a pedestrian underpass to access Colvin Run Mill Park, replacing and raising the bridge over Difficult Run, and making many intersection, bicycle and pedestrian improvements. Learn more.

Construction Updates

In August, crews continued construction activities along the corridor:

Area 1: Reston Avenue to Colvin Forest Drive (Except Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection)

Completed noise barrier foundations along westbound Route 7 near Great Passage Boulevard.
Completed noise barrier post and panel installation along eastbound Route 7 between Bishopsgate Way and Markell Court, and along westbound Route 7 between Amanda Drive and Great Passage Boulevard.
Continued noise barrier post and panel installation along eastbound Route 7 between Reston Parkway and Bishopsgate Way.
Continued surface paving and pavement markings on westbound Route 7 between Colvin Run Road (west) and Amanda Drive.
Continued surface paving and pavement markings on eastbound Route 7 from Markell Court to east of Delta Glen Court.

Area 2: Baron Cameron Avenue Intersection

Completed surface paving on Route 7 at the Baron Cameron Avenue intersection.
Completed the third-lane widening on westbound Baron Cameron Avenue, providing additional capacity through the traffic signal at Hunter Gate Way.

Area 3: Difficult Run Area (Colvin Forest Drive to Faulkner Drive

Completed curb and gutter installation along eastbound Route 7 between Colvin Forest Drive and Serenity Woods Lane.

Area 4: Faulkner Drive to Jarrett Valley Drive

Completed noise barrier foundations along eastbound Route 7 between Trap Road and Wolftrap Run Road.
Continued surface paving and pavement markings on eastbound Route 7 between Trap Road and Jarrett Valley Drive.
Started surface paving on westbound Route 7 between Jarrett Valley Drive and Lewinsville Road.
Began construction of the new service road between Wolftrap Run Road and McLean Bible Church.
Continued construction of the permanent configuration of the Lewinsville Road intersection.

Project-Wide

Third-party utility relocation activities are ongoing.
Continued grading, placement of stone and paving for the shared-use paths.

Work Continues Along Route 7

Construction activities will be ongoing along Route 7 through the fall months. Surface paving will continue, and traffic pattern changes will occur in the Lewinsville Road area as part of the transition to the permanent configuration at the Route 7/Lewinsville Road intersection.
