2023 International Citizen of the Year

Honoring Indianapolis Motor Speedway

On October 3rd, The International Center will be honoring Indianapolis Motor Speedway as the 2023 International Citizen of the Year! This year's event will be hosted at the legendary track.

Join us in celebrating the 2023 International Citizen of the Year with live entertainment, remarks, and the award presentation.

We have worked with community organizations to provide thematic beverages from Foyt Winery, Hi & Mighty, and Sun King.

Global Impression Award Finalists

The International Center announces the three finalist for its fourth Global Impression Award. Finalists include Philip Smith, Crystal Neumann, and Julia Breakey. These individuals were nominated by their peers and selected from a competitive group of global leaders in Indiana.

The Global Impression Award honors emerging leaders who are

demonstrating success in their profession and directly impacting the global

community within Indiana.

Engaging Across Cultures

The next installment of Engaging Across Cultures, happening on September 29th from 9:00 to 10:30 am, will focus on East Asia.

Learn more about Indiana’s current global connections – and gain the skills to engage with specific cultures and countries.

In this workshop, you will learn valuable insight and perspective from guest speakers and experts focused on the international cultures relevant in the Hoosier state. You’ll also gain skills to effectively overcome cultural differences and bridge cross-cultural communication barriers.

By the end of this introductory workshop, you’ll be able to identify the different components of effective intercultural communication – and how you can use them to advance global objectives in Indiana.

Fall Intern Cohort

The International Center welcomed the 2023 Fall Intern cohort on August 21st. The five new interns are coming from Butler University, Indiana University, Indiana University Indianapolis, Marian University, and the University of Indianapolis.

The intern cohort will engage in various departments throughout The Center, and will each get the chance to gain professional experience working on individual and cohort-wide projects.

The International Center is a catalyst to inform, convene and connect public, private and civic global objectives in Indiana.

Convene:

Friday August 25th, we kicked off our 2023 James T. Morris Global Leadership Series. Our first session on Cultural Competencies began with an overview of culture mapping by Noel Paul, followed by a presentation on global leadership by Kimberly LaComba PhD., and a presentation on the power of hello by Neelay Bhatt. We also explored self-awareness, others awareness, and international engagement strategies.

Connect:

Deputy Director of Relocation Services CaSondra Shim connected with species specialists at the Indianapolis Zoo. The International Center helped these specialists relocate from the Germany, Nigeria and the United Kingdom to work in the Global Center for Species Survival.
