One of the few schooners that ventures outside of Maine waters, the American Eagle visited Cape Ann twice this year, in June while on our Stellwagen trip and again over Labor Day weekend. We didn't stay for the Mayor's Race this year; instead we headed back across the Gulf of Maine ahead of the remnants of tropical storm Hermine. The schooner Adventure won this time..but there's always next year for our try # 31 for the Esperanto Cup!

Gloucester Harbor around 1940. Identify the schooner in the foreground and I'll send you a hat! Perhaps the American Eagle is in the background somewhere.
One of the crew was pleasantly surprised to find the schooner still has a presence in the community. This mural on the exterior of TD Bank at Harbor Loop shows the Eagle on her launching day.

Cruise News
It seems to be the season for the
American Eagle to appear in magazines by the name "Soundings". The picture above was taken most likely on our trip to Gloucester in 2015.
Soundings Magazine 's October issue features an article about windjamming in general and the
American Eagle in particular.
