Sunny Outlook for NJ's Solar Sector, Which Continues to Add Capacity

With the state contemplating an overhaul of its solar program, New Jersey continues to see robust growth in the sector, experiencing significant installations in new capacity.
In the second quarter, New Jersey added 78 megawatts of capacity, the eighth among states, according to a report by GTM Research and the Solar Energy Industries Association. New Jersey currently ranks fifth among states for installed solar capacity. READ MORE
State Looks to Spark Debate on Electric Vehicles, Infrastructure

The state is trying to figure out how to adapt to growth in the market for electric vehicles, a policy crucial to its efforts to meet mandates to reduce emissions contributing to global warming.
The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities is convening this week a stakeholders group to begin hashing out basic questions dealing with how the state can build the infrastructure needed to promote the vehicles and how quickly it can be done.

Rolls-Royce reveals plans for entirely autonomous naval ship

While larger manned ships are likely to continue to be used for complex missions, Rolls-Royce is banking on a move from an entirely human-operated to mixed fleet composition in the world's largest military forces, with some autonomous vessels performing certain tasks.
The ship will be 60m long, and will be capable of operating without any human assistance whatsoever for up to 100 days. With a top speed of 25 knots, it has an unmanned range of 3500 nautical miles. READ MORE

Texas PEs Set To Assist in Recovery from Harvey

Texas is home to many NSPE members. Texas Society of Professional Engineers Executive Director Trish Smith and TSPE President John Ho, P.E., made it a priority to reach out to members affected by Harvey. "We are keeping everyone in our thoughts and prayers, because this affected not just Houston, but also Corpus Christie, Beaumont, Port Arthur, and parts of Louisiana," says Ho. "This storm produced what they are calling a 1,000-year flood."

Vocal Members Send Message to Congress Opposing Autonomous Vehicles Bill

In a record-breaking advocacy action alert campaign, more than 700 NSPE members contacted 289 House offices to oppose a bill that would make sweeping changes to federal motor vehicle safety standards to accelerate the widespread deployment of autonomous vehicles.
