"Back to School"

Preparing our pets for back to school .

Play time is over - the long hot days of summer have passed. It is now time to roll up our sleeves and get back to school or work. That means schedule changes in the house and an empty house for hours at a time. The sudden switch from play time to living in an empty house can be stressful for our pups. How do we prepare our tail waggers for this transition? Click on the link below to learn some tips from behavioral experts on make this annual transition as smooth as possible.

Mozart for Dogs?

Reducing separation anxiety with classical music!

Your pup needs to be occupied and connected to something to be able to relax and enjoy their time alone. Dogs are social animals and often experience separation anxiety when left alone. Studies over the last two decades have found that the stress level in dogs is significantly decreased after listening to classical music. When you leave the house turn on classical music for your fur baby to enjoy. YouTube has music selections to play for dogs when you are away from home. For a sample of music please click on the link below.

--Dogs of the Month: Mama Georgia & Baby Peach

What an amazing and rare opportunity. How perfect to adopt a Mama (and a young one at that) and her baby girl. There is nothing more adorable than a shihtzu puppy, but what a bonus to have her momma along with her.

Georgia and her newborn pup were rescued from a horrible breeding situation the day after Peach was born. They are an absolute dream team, and everything happy, healthy Shih Tzu's can be. Georgia is a fantastic, very smart mother, who loves, cares for, and plays with her pup in the sweetest and gentlest way. She is very friendly and loves being with people and receiving all the love and affection she was denied for the first part of her life. Peach’s cuteness is off the charts. She is thriving and is as curious, sweet, and playful as you would expect from a young puppy.

Georgia is about 2 1/2 years old and 11-12 pounds. Peach was born on 7/9/24. These two are just beautiful together and definitely a good looking pair. We are keeping this mom/daughter pair together as they are close in age and truly love and delight in each other. If you believe you are a great match for Georgia and Peach, please put in an application today.

In Memoriam

Our sweet C.J. (also known as Cookie Jake), crossed the rainbow bridge on August 16. He was thought to be around 13 years old. Although he was only with us for a little over 3 years, we know he enjoyed his very best shihtzu life here. He was my husband Rick's shadow from the start and actually did choose Rick from day one. His first time in Rick's lap he just nuzzled right into my husband's neck, and I said, "OK, so I don't think there is any question on who is coming home with us today." C.J. loved to play catch with his little lamb toy, long walks on the leash and was very bonded to our Afi. He'd come right out of the bedroom in the morning ready to play, but not so much as this year progressed. He succumbed to a myriad of health issues and we all miss him so very much.
