September Festivals
As always, September begins our busy season with harvest, crush and festivals. This year, we are happy to be adding a new festival. We are excited to be the exclusive wine for the National Folk Festival being held this weekend in Salisbury, September 7-9! The National Folk Festival is so much more than what the name suggests! Per
nationalfolkfestival.com it is described as, "A free,
large-scale three-day outdoor event, the National Folk Festival celebrates the roots, richness and variety of American culture. It features over 350 of the nation's finest traditional musicians, dancers, craftspeople and other keepers of culture in performances, workshops, and demonstrations, plus children's activities, savory regional and ethnic cuisines and craft brews, non-stop participatory dancing, storytelling, parades, and more." You can find out more information on the website or check out
this video.
While we do not need any volunteer for the Folk Festival, we have several others we are looking for volunteers for:
Westminster, MD
September 15-16
Ocean City, MD
September 28-29
Salisbury, MD
October 20-21
Volunteer sign up, coming soon.
Volunteers receive FREE admission to the event, 20% off of Layton's Chance wine purchases and a volunteer t-shirt! See our festival page for sign up.

Spreading Cover Crop
Every year we plant cover crops behind our corn to utilize any nutrients that may be remaining in the ground. We plant a mix of three different plants, each one has a different purpose.

We plant w
heat, which grows abundantly and provides lots of organic matter. We p
lant radishes, which grow deep and both break up the soil, and pull nutrients from far down the soil (up to 8 feet down) and bring it back to the s
urface for next year's crop. And we plant winter peas, which as a legume, produce their own nitrogen and then leave it in the soil in the spring for next year's crop. Cover crops help us to protect the environment around us, and also make our own soils healthier and more productive.

Sometimes folks visit the winery who (gasp!) don't love wine. For them we offer "Imposter" - the wine that tastes like beer. And for those looking for the quintessential summer taste, we offer (Red) Sangria. Both available on tap and in our new refillable Layton's growlers. Both in limited batches - so come get them while they last!
