To the members & friends of First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove:
Can you believe that it’s already time for school to start? Before we know it, we’ll be drinking apple cider, pumpkin picking, and warming ourselves by the fire. Of course, all of these activities will continue in a world that has been drastically changed by this pandemic, which still impacts our everyday lives. And it’s in this changed world that we will continue to discern what church looks like for us. What role is church playing in our lives right now? What role do we want it to play? What about the role of the church in our broader community?
We’ve completed our visioning process with Jill White and now we are forming our task force to write our very own strategic plan that will shape the next few years of First Presbyterian Church. We’ve had multiple conversations about who we want to be and what we want to do. And now, we transition to choosing a course of action and figuring out how to make it happen. While there will be some changes that we can implement fairly quickly, most changes will likely take time. Even reviewing our visioning process and the data that has been collected will take time.
And here’s the thing about time: whether or not we write a strategic plan and commit to an intentional future, the future will come. So let’s spend the time that will pass getting creative and continuing the work of discernment about our future together. And we’ll all continue living our lives and learning how to make the most of what is right in front of us as we plan for our future.
I’m looking forward to what lies ahead. I’m excited for the changing leaves, more Church Table Talks, the Blessing of the Animals service, Reformation Sunday, and Christmas Eve. There’s much to look forward to in the coming months! Here’s to a safe and fun Fall at First Presbyterian Church of Glen Cove!
Peace,
