Stacy Housworth joined CCE as our Life Skills Educator in July. Stacy has held finance positions with several local municipalities, giving her the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in her new role. Stacy holds a Master's Degree in Business Management from Keuka College. In her free time, Stacy enjoys spending time with her family, being active in the community, and enjoying all the Finger Lakes region has to offer. | |
Stephanie McKinley joined CCE as our Ag in the Classroom Educator in August. Stephanie previously worked as a teaching assistant for many years in one of the local Steuben County school districts. Stephanie holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Empire State College. In her free time, Stephanie enjoys kayaking and camping with her family. | |
Amy Heale joined CCE as one of our SNAP-Ed Nutritionists in August. Amy has a degree in Health and Wellness management from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls and a certification in Wellness coaching and nutrition (AFPA). In her free time, Amy spends it on the sport fields watching her boys play soccer, basketball and baseball along with traveling, hiking and being near the water. | |

It seems like summer zooms by in the blink of an eye and before you know it, it’s time for kids to go back to school! Well fear not, between SNAP-Ed and MyPlate, we’ve got you covered when it comes to tips on healthy eating to keep your kids nourished and ready to learn. With about one-sixth of kids’ waking hours spent in school, it’s important to make sure they’re equipped with nutritious breakfast, snacks, and lunches so they’ve got the fuel to thrive in school. From age-specific nutrition tips, to guidance on school breakfast and lunch, to healthy snacking hacks, the MyPlate website has tons of tools to help you make smart meal and snack choices that will leave kids feeling satisfied and energized in both their bodies and their minds!

Cornell AgriTech's Grain and Fiber Hemp Field Day Event

Growers, processors, product developers and others interested in hemp grain and fiber are invited to see trials of new hemp cultivars, learn the latest in weed and disease management watch live demos of cutting-edge hemp processing technologies.
Two new hemp varieties, bred to help New York producers meet regulatory limits for THC, will be showcased at the event. Unlike other cultivars from China, which are late flowering and consistently test higher for THC, Cornell’s new varieties are reliably compliant for low or undetectable THC. Experts at Cornell AgriTech will also show several other hemp cultivars from France, Italy, Canada and U.S. breeding programs.
Experts will also demonstrate trials of herbicides, autonomous robots, seed treatments other techniques that can help successfully manage weeds and diseases in New York state.
One of the highlights of the event will be the exhibition of new equipment including a HempFlax Double-Cut Dual Purpose Combine, FiberCut Sickle Bar Harvester and FiberTrack 660 Mobile Decorticator systems, which is the only one of its kind in the Northeast.
The quality and quantity of educational resources and showcase of new varieties, techniques and technologies all in one location make the event an outstanding opportunity for hemp growers to strategically learn from Cornell experts.

Join Live, on the first Friday of every month from Noon to 12:30 EST on Zoom.
Each month, experts will share practical information and answer questions on using integrated pest management (IPM) to avoid pest problems and promote a healthy environment where you live, work, learn and play. We’ll end with an IPM Minute and cover a specific action you can take in the next few days to help you avoid pest problems.

Record Deadline: September 18th
All 4-H Members who exhibit a project in the 4-H Division at the 2023 Steuben County Fair are REQUIRED to turn in at least one record on their project by Monday, September 18, 2023 to receive premiums for that project. Those who sell an animal through the 4-H Market Animal Sale MUST complete a record (per species) to ID an animal to sell the following year. It's a good idea to begin your project record once you have your animal. Please find the appropriate records here.

The Southwest New York Dairy, Livestock and Field Crops Program with Cornell Cooperative Extension offers educational programming and research based information to agricultural producers, growers, and agribusinesses in the five county region of Southwestern New York.
Our specialists work with Cornell Faculty and Extension Educators statewide to address the issues that impact the agricultural industry and provide services to farms of all sizes and production techniques. The educational programming and support that we offer ranges from workshops to on-farm events, and includes one-on-one consultations. Our program is designed to meet the rapidly changing needs of our region's diverse agricultural community.
