Illuminate With Leadership November 16, 2023

Tickets Now Available at Early-Bird Rates

Join Leadership Howard County (LHC) and members of the community for Illuminating Leadership on ThursdayNovember 16 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at HCC's Horowitz Center. Tickets are now available at the "earliest bird" rate through September 15; beginning September 16, tickets will increase to $115, and after October 31, to $130. Plan to be a part of what is sure to be a fun and entertaining evening as we recognize some of our community's great leaders including, Key LeaderZack ShariffLP '12, and 2023's recipients of the Best Class Ever (BCE), LHC's new Emerging Leader Award, honoring a recent graduate from LHC's Premier Class of 2023, and the Corporate Community Impact Award, recognizing a company making significant contributions and serving as a role model for compassion and service to make the Howard County community a better place to live, work, and play. Award submissions and BCE point submissions are due September 30 [Best Class Ever Reporting Form]. Illuminating Leadership Tickets

We're almost ready for LHC's first "Service Friday" on FridaySeptember 8 from 

10 a.m. to 12 p.m. to support Prepare for Success. There's still time for members to help support this effort by donating supplies (or funds to purchase supplies) and/or volunteering time to assemble backpacks on September 8 at The Rouse Exhibit Center, located at 10215 Wincopin Circle, Suite 200, Columbia. 


 Please note that the Exhibit Center is NOT a drop-off location, only an assembly site.


School supplies may still be dropped off at the LHC offices next week on Tuesday - Wednesday - Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please email Karen Bryant if you need to arrange an alternate drop-off day/time. Also, if you can help us pack backpacks on September 8, please sign up via Sign-Up Genius.

We're excited to officially kick off LHC's FY24 program year with Tim GuyLE '15, and Howard County Public Schools (HCPSS’) Director of Assessment and Reporting. Join us on WednesdaySeptember 20 from 9 to 11 a.m. at The 3rd to learn more about Maryland's Blueprint for the Future and how HCPSS is charting the course to improve student outcomes.

Do you know an emerging leader who would benefit from leadership skill development? Invite them to the Leadership Essentials 2024 virtual information session on September 14 from 5 to 6 p.m. to learn more about the program, and meet other applicants, and alumni (see meeting details below).


Leadership Essentials is a six-month leadership development program for emerging and mid-level leaders that is run by Loyola University Maryland, in partnership with Leadership Howard County. Leadership Essentials consists of three core components: facilitated sessions on leadership topics, one-on-one leadership coaching, and a team-based community impact project. The program runs from December through June 2024. Applications are due October 9! A limited amount of financial aid is available for nonprofit participants and entrepreneurs. The Howard County Veterans Foundation is holding a panel discussion and book signing with Lena Andrews, author of the new book, Valiant Women, which tells the story of the 350,000 women who served in uniform during World War II. The event will take place Thursday, September 7 from 5 to 7 pm at Busboys and Poets in Columbia

The Mediation and Conflict Resolution Center, Inc. ("MCRC"), a local Howard County non-profit organization that provides accessible and affordable conflict resolution services, is seeking board members.
