CHILDREN'S GARDEN WORKDAY

Dayspring Children’s Ministries is starting its own Gardening Club! Our first garden workday will be this Saturday, September 10 from 8:00-10:00am. We will have a lot of work to do to turn over the beds and get them ready for planting. Parents are welcome to join us, or you can drop off your children. Please be sure to wear sunscreen and a hat, bring water and gardening gloves if you have them. Snacks will be provided. Email Andrea with questions.

WALKING THE LABYRINTH

Pastor Shirley will offer more information about Walking our Labyrinth between services this Sunday, September 11. Meet at the entrance to the labyrinth on the patio following the 9:00 service. Walking the labyrinth represents the journey of our lives, including experiences, changes, discoveries, and challenges. We are so fortunate to have a labyrinth at Dayspring which is a valuable spiritual tool to aid us in our own healing and spiritual growth.

NEW MEMBER ORIENTATION

Are you new to Dayspring UMC or have you been attending for a while and are interested to know more about the church and what is involved in membership? We invite you to learn more about the UMC and Dayspring specifically, this Sunday, September 11, from 11:45 am - 1:15 pm. This will be a hybrid session, meeting in-person in Room 112 as well as on Zoom (click here to join).

KATHARINE HAYHOE KEYNOTE

Green Team Watch Party

This Sunday, Sept. 11, please join our Dayspring Watch Party to hear from Dr. Katharine Hayhoe, speaking live from the Green Team Summit about her recent book, “Saving Us: A Climate Scientist’s Case for Hope and Healing in a Divided World.” We will connect online from the Palo Verde Room at 2:45pm. Hayhoe will deliver the Keynote address for the Summit, followed by a live Q&A during which we can submit our questions. Afterward, anyone interested is welcome to stay for an informal discussion with the newly formed Dayspring Green Team about how we can take an active, spiritual approach to environmental care.

PRISON MINISTRY COLLECTION

Dayspring's Prison Ministry will be collecting books and yarn for the women at Perryville State Prison in Goodyear AND household items for the Magdalene House in Avondale. Needed items for the transitional house include: toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent (pods, powder or liquid), dryer softener sheets, large refill sized liquid hand soap for bathrooms, 2 new angled brooms, Circle K or Quik Trip gasoline cards, and city bus passes. The team will have a table after services on September 11 and 18 for drop off. Please email Jane with questions.

CAP COLLECTION

We're collecting new and gently used baseball caps for asylum seekers. Please leave donations in the collection box outside the church office.

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY DONATIONS

The mission of Little Free Libraries is to be a catalyst for building community, inspiring readers, and expanding book access for all through a global network of volunteer-led Little Free Library locations. We are collecting new and gently used books to refill the Little Free Library by our Giving Garden. Current children’s books are in the highest demand, as are young adult fiction. Please bring donations to the collection boxes between September 25 and October 2.

FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT

Children’s Ministry is sponsoring an indoor fall movie night on September 23. Bring blankets, pillows, and stuffed animals to snuggle with as we cozy up and watch a movie in Fellowship Hall. Doors open at 6:00pm, the movie starts at 6:30. Feel free to bring dinner. Chips and drinks will be available for purchase.

FLU SHOT CLINIC

We host our annual Flu/Pneumonia Immunization Clinic on September 25 from 8:30am until noon in the Fellowship Hall. You do not need to be a member of Dayspring to participate. Costs vary, depending on the type of immunization and insurance.
