Parking Meter QR Codes

We’ve added Park Smarter QR codes to the coin-only street parking meters in the Downtown area to make your parking experience easier. The Park Smart app provides contactless payment options, lets you to extend parking sessions remotely and sends reminders before your time expires. While some meters are still waiting for their codes, they will be updated as soon as possible. This is a temporary measure while we work on upgrading all meters to ones that accept cards, coins, and app payments.

Sales Tax Extension

The La Mesa City Council voted unanimously at the July 9 City Council meeting to place the extension of the ¾¢ sales tax on the ballot for the upcoming 2024 November Election. This decision allows La Mesa residents to vote on the continuation of this sales tax, which has been used to fund public services.

Since 2008, the City has relied on local funding from this voter-approved sales tax. This funding is currently set to expire in 2029. If the sales tax expires, La Mesa will lose approximately $12 million in annual funding. Without this funding, La Mesa will need to make significant reductions to services.

If renewed, this local funding will continue to:

  • Maintain over 153 miles of streets and 53 miles of storm drains.
  • Keep 133 acres of parks, recreation, and community facilities well-maintained.
  • Repair aging infrastructure including storm drains, sidewalks, and public facilities.
  • Provide fire protection, paramedic services, and quick responses to 911 emergencies.
  • Provide police services, including crime prevention and investigations.
  • Beautify and keep La Mesa clean.

As the City of La Mesa plans for the future, please share your thoughts, opinions, and priorities to help shape our plans by taking our survey.

Did you know that in addition to yard waste, you can put food waste into the green organic waste bins? This includes items like food-soiled paper towels, greasy pizza boxes, fruit peels, stale chips, meat and bones. Please ensure that food waste goes into the organics bin, not the blue recycling bin or the gray trash bin. This guideline also applies to residents of apartment complexes. For more information, contact EDCO customer service at 619-287-7555.
