Fred Lothrop – Friend of the Chamber
Earlier this month, we lost one of our great friends and community volunteer. Fred Lothrop, an Emergency Preparedness Commissioner and resident of Lafayette for many years passed on. Fred helped the Chamber and the city prepare for disasters, and was an experienced Ham Radio operator. He helped us develop a Dispatch Program for the Art & Wine Festival, which handled all requests, emergencies and deliveries. He also worked the Start/Finish line of the Annual Reservoir Run for Education. He assembled a team that was out on the course giving us live reports on what was happening. Fred also helped create the annual Safety Fair. He was a gentle man who was always calm and always had a smile. The Chamber Staff and the Art & Wine Committee members send our condolences to his family.
His Memorial Service will be held on September 8, 1pm at All Episcopal Church, 2220 Cedar Street (at Spruce) in Berkeley. There will be a reception following the service. ). Parking will be difficult; carpooling is strongly suggested.

Special Meeting Scheduled to talk about all things PG&E
Monday, September 10, 4pm, Lafayette Library and Learning Center (Community Room)
Please note that the special City Council meeting concerning PG&E on September 10, 2018, will begin at 4pm. The regular City Council meeting will begin at 7pm, following the special meeting.
Coming up is a special meeting that includes our City Council, PG&E, the CPUC (California Public Utilities Commission) and the public. The purpose of the meeting will be to create trust and confidence that Lafayette’s gas pipelines are safe, well-managed and supported by all parties. This issue has complicated layers, with many questions from the public that challenge the reasoning behind such anticipated programs like the removal of hundreds of trees. PG&E must respond to many unanswered questions before this special meeting on September 10th. The meeting will be held at the Lafayette Library and Learning Center (Community Room). Focused goals, alternatives and informed compromise are being asked for by residents that have weighed in on this subject. You can read many of the comments by visiting

The Lafayette Homeowners Council (LHC) is sponsoring its yearly Candidates Night on September 20th at 7 p.m. at the Lafayette Veterans Memorial Center at 3780 Mt. Diablo Blvd. All residents are welcome! This year five candidates will be on the November ballot for just two City Council positions. Each candidate will have five minutes to introduce themselves and speak regarding their individual positions on various issues regarding our City. After each candidate has spoken, the audience will be able to ask questions of any candidate. Also this year there are four Lafayette School Board positions open and just four candidates. For this reason, the School District decided not to participate in the November election and each candidate will join the School Board as members. However, the LHC invited the School Board “candidates” to its Candidates Night and asked each to introduce themselves and speak for 2-3 minutes regarding their views on schools and education in Lafayette. The meeting will also include a brief “Annual Meeting” agenda by the LHC and we also hope to hear from our Mayor. So all please Come, Listen, Question & Decide!
