SEPTEMBER 2023 NEWSLETTER

Greetings from the Irvington NY PTSA!

Elizabeth O'Hanlon

PTSA President

Welcome back to another amazing school year at the Irvington Union Free School District! Last year, the PTSA gave our schools nearly $70,000 in grants to fund guest authors, clubs, enrichment programs, field trips, professional development, and more! In addition, we also ran our signature programs such as the MSS Talent Show, the District-wide Science Fair, Family Movie Night, Preschool Carnival, and School BBQs - all of which foster a sense of community while enriching the student experience.

Read Our New PTSA Fact Sheet!

You are a vital part of helping the PTSA enrich and support our schools, teachers and students! When you renew your annual membership ($50), please consider an additional donation of $100 or more to help us reach our fundraising goal. Become a Member & Give to the PTSA!

As an all-volunteer organization, we are always in need of your time and talent! Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for timely volunteer opportunities, or join our volunteer database to tell us how you would like to get involved!

Lastly, I hope to see you all at our first fall fundraiser party to support the PTSA Bulldog Family Fund which provides financial support and resources to families in our District in need. Link to tickets is below!

Love Football? Enter our NFL Survivor Pool Fundraiser

Deadline to Enter: Sep 16

Put your football knowledge to use or test your luck for a chance to win the Grand Prize while competing with neighbors, family, and friends, while raising funds to support the PTSA! The PTSA receives 50% of all entry fees (1 entry ($50), 3 entries ($100) or 10 entries ($250)), so the more entries you buy, the bigger the winnings, the better your chances to win and more money raised for the PTSA.

Got a Question for School Administrators? Submit a PAC Query!

The Parent Advisory Council or PAC is a forum for parents to anonymously raise questions/concerns or share suggestions with school administrators about topics that impact the District, the school, the grade or a class. Each school (Dows Lane, Main Street School, Irvington Middle School and Irvington High School) has its own PAC which is composed of that school’s principal and assistant principal, and the PTSA Vice Presidents (VP) and Grade Parents.

PAC questions can be submitted through a Google Form and parents can opt to remain anonymous. Visit www.irvingtonnyptsa.org/pac to meet your school’s PTSA PAC representatives, view PAC meeting dates and minutes, and the link to submit a question or comment to your school’s PAC.

Attention New Families: Welcome to Irvington Schools!

If you recently joined the Irvington school district, the PTSA New Families Welcome Committee is here to ease your transition into the community and our schools. In the coming weeks, you’ll receive a Welcome Email with information and resources, as well as dates for the New Families Welcome Breakfasts at your child’s school. In the meantime, please visit www.irvingtonnyptsa.org/NewFamilies for a list of upcoming events (including the welcome breakfasts), school and community resources and social media groups, and a contact list of PTSA school and grade representatives.

Dows Lane Families: Join Your Class Email Lists

PTSA Class Parents have been assigned (see full list here) and we're collecting emails from parents of each K - 3 class so we can work with teachers to communicate class updates all year. Click HERE to join your class list and contact your class parent if you need anything in the meantime.

Get into the School Spirit in Time for Homecoming

Homecoming is one week away, so it's the perfect time to load up on your Irvington spirit wear! We have T-shirts, sweatshirts, pajamas, hats and tumblers ready for local pickup in Irvington!

Visit our the PTSA Spirit Wear store for all available styles and sizes. A portion of the sales proceeds support the PTSA General Fund which brings grants and programs to our schools.

Welcome Back BBQs: 6th Grade and High School

PTSA school representatives and parent volunteers teamed up to host welcome back student BBQs for incoming 6th graders on the first day of school and for all high school students on Sep. 8th! Thank you to all our volunteers for organizing these special events to bring students together and celebrate the start of the school year!

K Popsicles with the Principal

On August 28th, the PTSA brought incoming kindergartners together at Dows Lane to meet their fellow classmates and principals, while enjoying popsicles on the last days of summer! We’re proud to support this annual tradition which helps our youngest students get comfortable with their new school, and creates new bonds between kindergarten families. Click HERE to view the photo gallery.

Superintendent’s Breakfast

On August 30th, the PTSA organized breakfast to welcome back more than 200 school administrators, faculty and staff at the Superintendent’s Breakfast. Along with our annual teacher appreciation lunches, these hospitality events allow us to celebrate and show gratitude to those who play a vital role in shaping our children’s school experience.
