Studies Offer Vermont Insights
A few recent studies revealed some interesting data for Vermont:

  • Vermont placed fourth (tied with Montana) in a list of the best states for business growth. Venture Smarter analyzed data from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics to determine the business growth rate in each state based on the number of establishments in December 2021 compared to December 2022. Georgia topped the list.

  • CNBC listed the 16 U.S. states where a family of four needs to earn more than $70,000 to be financially secure based on a study by GoBankingRates. Vermont was number 8 on the list with $79,490 needed. That’s among the many reasons the VTTA has championed the growth of tech jobs and tech companies that pay higher wages.

  • Vermont gained higher income earners with the movement of people in the state from 2020 to 2021, during the pandemic, based on a new analysis of tax data by the Economic Innovation Group. The total for Vermont: $364.4 million. The top counties: Windsor ($66.4 million), Bennington ($57.3 million), Chittenden, (35.4 million). No data yet for 2022 to show whether they stayed.

A Rutland Startup Created a Virtual Reality Tool to Train Nurses in Emergency Responses
(September 5, ,2023 – VTDigger)

A Rutland-based startup called Tacitly.com is developing a virtual reality tool to provide training to traveling nurses on how to use a code cart, also known as a crash cart, that is wheeled into an emergency room to save a patient’s life. It contains instruments for cardiopulmonary resuscitation and other medical supplies. The carts enable medical personnel to save time in an emergency, thereby increasing the chance of saving a patient’s life.

However, each hospital configures the carts in a different way, which means that every time traveling nurses arrive at a new hospital, they need to learn the new configuration. Tacitly’s virtual reality tool enables them to get the training they need.
