Teachers: Apply to Attend SRL Workshop for FREE
We would like to send two Idaho media teachers in rural schools to the PBS NewsHour Student Reporting Labs Workshop in 2024. Contact us for more information!
This summer, Student Reporting Labs (SRL) hosted more than 40 educators from across the country for its 13th annual SRL Teacher Workshop at WETA in Arlington, Virginia. Educators worked alongside the SRL team to strengthen their technical and editorial skills in areas like interviewing, digital photography/videography, editing, and podcasting, with the goal of educators bringing these skills back to their classrooms to support high school student journalists as they report important stories from a youth perspective.
You can also join the Community Educator Facebook Group. This is a space to ask questions, get feedback, share behind-the-scenes moments, memes and other miscellany related to journalism, public broadcasting, and media-making.

These funds will allow us to create 1,100 kits, which include the book The Night Before Kindergarten, a backpack, scissors, write-and-wipe numbers and letters sheets, markers, crayons, pencil, play-doh, activity cards, alphabet coloring book, grocery store math bingo, and the Idaho School Readiness guidelines. This popular program is now in its fifth year!

IdahoPTV in Your Neighborhood
Every Wednesday at the Mountain Home Public Library in southwestern Idaho, 50 to 60 kids ages 6 and up flock to the afterschool STEAM Tykes program, which provides a hands-on forum for kids to develop their skills in science, technology, engineering, art, and math.
Youth Services Coordinator Bianca Garcia has been doing this work for 15 years, and one of the challenges she says is coming up with creative ways to engage Mountain Home youth, from toddlers to teens.
A vital component of the library’s STEAM events is Education Specialist Brady Kissel at IdahoPTV. Kissel brings a van full of PBS KIDS materials and facilitates activities with the kids. Continue Reading

Bugs and Boxes in Lapwai and Cul de Sac
In events led by Education Specialist Lenea Pierzchanowski at Lapwai Public Library and the park in Cul de Sac, we came together to talk about patterns and gratitude. We looked at insects encased in amber, created patterns in color/shape/species with mini-dinosaurs, and decorated gratitude boxes to keep special notes, items collected from nature, and other mementos.

IdahoPTV Education handed out 800 grab-and-go children's activity kits at Children's Day at the Spirit of Boise Classic balloon event! Kudos to Education Specialists Brady Kissel and Ashley Marotz for getting up at the crack of dawn to be on hand for the 6 am balloon launch, which included free balloon rides for kids!

Wednesday, September 6, 6-7pm
Twin Falls Public Library
Education Specialist Brady Kissel will lead kids ages 4-7 in a boat-building activity using skills learned in an episode of The Cat in the Hat Knows A Lot About That. Participants will have only one piece of foil, two straws, and two popsicle sticks to create something that not only can float but has the ability to hold "passengers" as well! This is a great activity for those who are persistent, creative, and nautical!
