Variety Showcase NYC
at GrowNYC's Project Farmhouse
Monday, September 24 at GrowNYC's Project Farmhouse

This year the Culinary Breeding Network is partnering with  GrowNYC   to bring the VARIETY SHOWCASE to  Project Farmhouse . The Variety Showcase is an interactive mixer designed to build community between plant breeders, organic farmers, and eaters. Attendees have the opportunity to taste new and in-development vegetable, fruit and grain cultivars with the breeders that created them; share opinions; talk about needs and preferences; and learn about the importance of organic plant breeding.

FYI, The Greenmarket Regional Grains Project will be joined by members of the wheat breeding team at Cornell to showcase the 7 varieties brought to market through the Value Added Grains Project.

Featured Innovator: BarleyWorld
Barley World is Oregon State University's Barley Breeding Program and one of the Regional Grains Project's partners on developing naked or hull-less barley. You can join us as we showcase OSU and Cornell's work on naked barley at GrowNYC's Variety Showcase and Barley Tasting this month!

Featured Grain: Naked Barley

The Greenmarket Grainstand is getting a little more friendly this month, we’re welcoming two varieties of hull-less or “naked” barley from Cornell’s small grains breeding program. Hull-less varieties make possible the consumption of whole grain barley instead of the pearled grain people are familiar with, increasing the nutritional content and flavor of barley dishes.

Greenmarket Regional Grains Project is a program of GrowNYC , a 501(c)3 environmental nonprofit organization. When you donate to GrowNYC you support Greenmarket Regional Grains Project, small family farms, neighborhood Greenmarkets, community gardens, recycling and hands-on education programs for youth.  Please donate to GrowNYC today.
