Winter storage savings in East Cowes
Welcome to our autumn newsletter. For winter 2017-2018, Kingston Marine Boatyard (KMB) is offering competitively priced winter storage both in the yard and under cover in the ‘Kingston Boat Store’.

If you bring your boat ashore between now and 8th December 2017, and stay until 31st March 2018, you will receive free weeks of storage . In fact, the sooner you take your boat to Kingston, the more you could save!

You can choose between laying up your boat in the extensive yard and taking advantage of the under cover Boat Store facility. Either way, winter storage at Kingston is great value with trailered yard storage from £0.51 per metre per day (standard yard rate £0.65pmpd) and trailered space in the Boat Store from £0.76 per metre per day.

Yachts and motor boats up to 40 tonnes can be accommodated in the yard, with a new 30 tonne boat mover enabling quick transit times from the hoist dock to the main yard. The Boat Store is suitable for boats up to 10 metres, dry storage, dry sailing, light works and refit.

The friendly Boatyard team has expertise in the selection and application of most modern antifouling systems, polishes, cleaning agents and cathodic protection; they can take on antifoul removal, hull cleaning, polishing, and painting.

For all storage enquiries and bookings, phone 01983 299385 or email kmb.chc@cowes.co.uk .
Yacht refit projects
At Kingston Marine Boatyard, we offer a wide range of maintenance services and have a number of preferred sub-contractors that can also be involved in the care of your boat. Alternatively, you are welcome to work on your own vessel or contract independent companies, subject to site conditions.

Currently undergoing a refit at Kingston is the 50ft South African steel yacht Ilanda , recently purchased by Cowes based Bowsprit Sailing Ltd who are known for their Bristol Pilot Cutter Polly Agatha .

Under the supervision of onsite Marine Surveyor Nigel Harrison, they are undertaking a full repaint and service of all systems onboard with a view to offering long-range charters for their guests. Local Island traders have been chosen for all works with Jotum being used under the water line and Awlgrip above.
Night works for Red Funnel
Back in 2012, Kingston Marine Services (KMS) devised a modified system of buffer pads for the end of the lower vehicle link-span ramp at the Red Funnel Terminal in East Cowes.

After five years of attrition from the comings and goings of the Raptor Class ferries, the pads needed replacement and the welded steel frames some repairs.

To this end, the Kingston Marine Services team spent three nights over the first weekend of September working whilst most of us slept at home.

Full use was made of the KMS team’s cutting and welding skills and expertise as they repaired the heavy angle frames and secured new custom-made nylon pads before giving it all a good coat of two-part epoxy paint.

The team’s enthusiasm for this and other one off, difficult hours and access tasks is what make KMS such a good choice for local ‘unusual projects’.
Seaclear survey
Cowes Harbour Commission’s Multi-Cat vessel Seaclear is due an 'out of water' survey to keep her certification valid, and she was therefore slipped at South Boats in Cowes earlier this week.

Whilst Seaclear is on the slip, the hull and topsides will be grit blasted to take away years of flaky paint and rust before being re-sprayed with an epoxy based Jotun paint coating system to keep her fresh for several years to come. Service work is also being carried out on deck, including some major renovations of her deck crane as well as yet more painting.
