National Recovery Month in Contra Costa County

Pictured above, the Board of Supervisors presents a resolution to Support4Recovery, led by Tom Aswad, recognizing September as National Recovery Month in Contra Costa County.
Support4Recovery is local non-profit made up of individuals and their families in recovery. Their mission is to assess the needs of the recovery community and develop action plans to educate and empower people towards their own success and break down the stigma and discrimination associated with recovery by developing programs that help people prepare for the job market and take ownership of their own recovery.
To help more people achieve and sustain long-term recovery, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), and Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors invite all residents of Contra Costa County to participate in National Recovery Month.

Supervisor Andersen Introduces New District 2 Staff Member | |

Supervisor Andersen is happy to announce her newest staff member, Rasha Chatman. Rasha has worked for many years in both the public and private sectors.
Rasha is stepping into the position of Scheduler, and Administrative Assistant. She will also be sending out the weekly newsletter.
She previously held a position as Administrative Assistant - Deputy City Clerk for the City of Orinda. She has extensive experience supporting executive leaders, councilmembers, and constituents, as well as resolving concerns and inquiries from the public. Rasha received her B.A. from Clark-Atlanta-University.

Exchange Club of The San Ramon Valley 9/11 Event | |

The Exchange Club of the San Ramon Valley hosted its annual September 11th memorial ceremony at Oak Hill Park in Danville.
Pictured left to right; Town of Danville Councilmember, Newell Arnerich; Supervisor Andersen; SRVFPD Deputy Chief, Chris Parsons; and Town of Danville Mayor, Karen Stepper.
The event is aimed at recognizing first responders who were at the scene of the World Trade Center attacks 23 years ago and reminding younger generations of the significance of that day.

Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Annual Fallen Firefighter & 9/11 Memorial Service | |

The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District held their annual Fallen Firefighter and 9/11 Memorial Service at Station 11 in Clayton. Nineteen firefighters from CCCFPD who have lost their lives during the line of duty were recognized, and the hundreds of firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11/2001 were remembered.
Retired Battalion Chief Dave George, current Contra Costa Fire Chief Lewis Broschard, as well as the Clayton Chief of Police, Clayton Mayor and other city officials spoke at the event.

Supervisor Andersen attended Narika's 32nd Annual Gala, "Tarang - An Evening of Light & Hope." The event was held at the beautiful Wente Vineyards on Sunday, September 8th.

Narika was founded in 1992 by a group of immigrant women, who identified the need for domestic violence services in the local communities of the Bay Area. The focus of the September 8 event, was to recognize 32 years of service and envision a violence-free future. To learn more go to Narika.

The Museum of San Ramon Valley Celebrates the 90th Anniversary Of The East Bay Regional Park District | |

The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is proud to host a pop up exhibit celebrating the 90th anniversary of East Bay Regional Parks. EBRP began in 1934 and today manages 73 parks in Alameda and Contra Costa County. Also included is a history of the Iron Horse trail a jewel in the crown of EBRP which is owned by the County but maintained by the Park District. This exhibit closes on September 15th.
MuseumSRV is at 205 Railroad Avenue, Danville, CA 94526. The hours are Tuesday-Friday from 1:00 to 4:00 Saturday 10-2, Sunday 12-3. For more information visit the website at museumsr.org.

Homeowners Insurance Update | |

Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan is working closely with the Department of Insurance, the Insurance Commissioner, and other key stakeholders to restore stability to the homeowner's insurance market as quickly as possible.
She has announced a public hearing convened by Commissioner Lara to provide input for the final phases of new wildfire modeling regulations on September 17th at 10 a.m.

San Ramon Historic Foundation Annual Fundraising Event | |

You’re invited to join the San Ramon Historic Foundation for their lively annual fundraising event. All proceeds raised go directly to maintaining and preserving Forest Home Farms Historic Park.
This 16-acre park was bequeathed to the City of San Ramon in 1997 by Ruth Boone in honor of her husband, Travis Boone. The site includes the Glass House, built in 1877, the Boone House, built in 1900, and 14 outbuildings/barns. The renovated barn, dating back to the period between 1850 and 1860, is now open for self-tours. Come see it all and treat yourself to a great lunch. Be sure to visit the Gift Shoppe as well!

Full Closure of Bollinger Canyon Road Between Camino Ramon and Market Place for Construction Through Sunday | |

Bollinger Canyon Road is closed between Camino Ramon and Market Place until this Sunday, September 15. Detours are in place to direct traffic around the construction zone. City Hall and the Marketplace Shopping Center are open with access from westbound Bollinger Canyon Road.
This roadway closure is required to conduct a critical phase of construction on the Iron Horse Trail Bicycle and Pedestrian Overcrossing, where the Overcrossing structure within the roadway limits will be built. Once this work is complete, the silhouette of the Overcrossing will be visible.

CCC Fish & Wildlife Committee - Upcoming Vacancies | |

The Contra Costa County Internal Operations Committee of the Board of Supervisors is now accepting applications from individuals to fill two (2) At-Large member seats and one (1) At-Large Alternate member seat on the Contra Costa County Fish and Wildlife Committee. Applications are due by November 4, 2024 at 5:00 P.M.
The Fish and Wildlife Committee has ten members: five District representatives nominated by individual members of the Board of Supervisors, four At-Large positions and one At-Large Alternate position nominated by the Internal Operations Committee. The Internal Operations Committee considers applications from all interested individuals and conducts interviews even when an existing At-Large member seeks reappointment.
Fish and Wildlife Committee meetings are held six times a year on the third Wednesday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. For more information regarding the Fish and Wildlife Committee, please click here to visit the Committee’s website.
Applicants must be a resident of Contra Costa County and submit an application online, via email, U.S. mail or hand delivery by Monday, November 4, 2024, at 5:00 P.M. to the Clerk of the Board. Contra Costa County Probation Seeks Applicants for Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council | |

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is seeking applicants interested in serving on its 20-member Juvenile Justice Coordinating Council (JJCC). Regular meetings of the Council and other standing committees are held at least quarterly based on a schedule adopted by the Council; that schedule may be changed or augmented as needed. The following positions are vacant and will be held for a two-year term:
- Two (2) At-Large youth seats, 14 to 25 years old residing or working within Contra Costa County
- One (1) At-Large member residing or working within Contra Costa County
The JJCC is a multi-agency advisory body that contributes to the development and implementation of a countywide juvenile justice plan. It is composed of several critical parts; including, but not limited to, an assessment of existing law enforcement, probation, education, mental health, health, social services, drugs, alcohol, and youth resources, which specifically target both at-promise, as well as system involved youth, and their families.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, September 20. All applicants who submit by the deadline will be invited to the public interview process conducted by the Public Protection Committee. This committee will then recommend a selection of applicants for the Board of Supervisors to appoint. Interviews with the Public Protection Committee will occur October 7, and appointments with the Board of Supervisors will occur on October 22.

Are You Interested in Resource Conservation? | |

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors is seeking individuals to serve on the Board of Directors for the Contra Costa Resource Conservation District (CCRCD). The CCRCD’s mission is to facilitate conservation and stewardship of the natural resources in our county. CCRCD is a state legislated special district governed under Division 9 of the CA Public Resources Code which stipulates that a Director must be a registered voter in California and:
- Reside within Contra Costa County and either own real property in the county or have served for two years or more as a CCRCD Associate director; or
- Be a designated agent of a resident landowner within the county.
Qualified candidates with a demonstrated interest in conservation and stewardship of natural resources are encouraged to apply. The County Board of Supervisors will make appointments to fill three vacancies effective December 1, 2024, for four-year terms expiring on November 30, 2028. Board of Directors meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month in Pleasant Hill.

Volunteers Sought for Community Advisory Board (CAB) on Public Safety Realignment -
The Community Advisory Board (CAB) on Public Safety Realignment was established by the Community Corrections Partnership (CCP) Executive Committee in December 2012 to provide input on community needs; assess implementation of the realignment plan; review data on realignment outcomes; advise the CCP on community engagement strategies; offer recommendations for ongoing realignment planning; advise County agencies regarding programs for implementation in the County; and encourage outcomes that are consistent with the County’s Reentry Strategic Plan.
