September 2015
Dear League Member,

I hope you have enjoyed your summer. As an outcome of our May Annual Meeting, our League is working on new initiatives for this year. One of these is a different format for our monthly newsletter.   We would like your feedback on this change.  The hope is that information will be easier to access and in a more reader friendly style.  Please use the link to share your thoughts and suggestions.
Peggy Kell, President LWVOPRF

Monthly Programs
Drinks and Dialogue
On the third Wednesday of each month, our  League invites members and the public to "Drinks &Dialogue".  Held at Doc Ryan's , 7432 Madison,Forest Park, from 5:30-7:00 pm, we will be inviting speakers to interact with the audience on a variety of topics.  At our September 16 program, we will be joined by Jan Goldberg and Kathy Nesburg to discuss re-districting and the Independent Maps initiative that LWVIL is supporting.  We encourage members to bring friends and neighbors to these events

Second Tuesday
On the second Tuesday of each month, the Nineteenth Century Club hosts our League's invited speakers to share their knowledge with members and the public. From 9:30-11:00am, speakers will answer questions about their field of expertise in our community.  The Nineteenth Century Club is located at 178 Forest Ave., Oak Park.  This month our League's President, Peggy Kell, will speak and answer questions about our local League and voter education.

Observer Reports
An important mission of the League is to advocate for our public policy positions.  Observing governmental meetings is an important part of this mission.  When elected boards know someone is watching, greater transparency is created.  Our Observer Corps does just that.  They attend local school, village, park, township, and library board meetings and report back on actions taken.  At this time, we still have some boards that are not being observed in Oak Park, River Forest, and Forest Park.  Do you have one night a month to attend a board meeting?  Please contact Mary Haley mhaley1026@mac.com or Jan Schlicting marvjane@aol.com for more information.

Membership Committee Meeting
At the May Annual meeting, members determined that a primary goal for this year should be to develop our League's membership and leadership.  Marilyn Cantisano and Donalda Ellek, Membership Committee chairs, are planning their first meeting for Wednesday, September 2, at 7:00 pm at the home of Marilyn, 830 Belleforte Avenue, Oak Park.  Are you interested in welcoming and helping new members become more engaged in our activities? Then please attend this meeting.  Have questions?  Contact Marilyn marilyncantisano@gmail.com or Donalda
