In early August, just before the commencement of the fall semester, the Jefferson Park Neighborhood Association posted a "Welcome" door hanger at every residence within its boundaries. The brochure included a wealth of information for all households. A copy of the Red Tag handout was included as well so all residents would be well informed about the guidelines pertaining to parties, loud music and gatherings. The data from the Tucson Police Department follows.
August 2017: Loud Party Calls Loud Music Red Tags
City of Tucson: 116 201 10
Jefferson Park: 4 0 3
The neighborhood will continue to work in conjunction with the University of Arizona. Last spring, three members of the Jefferson Park Neighborhood Association met with the Dean of Students office to discuss the neighborhood's proactive approach to creating and maintaining a welcoming, safe and peaceful environment. Loud parties, loud music, and unruly gatherings resulting in Red Tags were topics of interest. Discussed as well were the expectations the University has of its students, its Code of Conduct and how they generally follow up with students who receive citations or violate the code.
JPNA is a supportive neighborhood organization that will compassionately encourage student compliance, and will also assist and support neighbors in red tag matters. Please click on the link below for information.
We look forward to successful and productive relationships with all of our neighbors. Note: Response to calls resulting in red tags in Tucson was 10%, in Jefferson Park it was 75%.
