Finalists for UH President named, public forums scheduled
The finalists will be introduced to the UH community and general public through a series of open houses (meet and greet opportunities) and public forums (question and answer sessions).
Finalist Wendy F. Hensel will be visiting Kauaʻi Community College on Monday, September 23 at the Fine Arts Auditorium from 2-3 p.m. (Open House), 3-4 p.m. (Campus Forum - zoom option available).

Monthly Safety Awareness Workshops
Monthly Safety Awareness Workshops by Miles Nirei -- Information, instruction and training for asbestos awareness is intended to give workers and supervisors the information they need to avoid work that may disturb asbestos during any normal work which could disturb the fabric of a building, or other item which might contain asbestos. The course will include an asbestos survey conducted for each campus and is available for each supervisor to review prior to assignment of task. Please email Sheri Amimoto (samimoto@hawaii.edu) if you would like to attend. The next workshop via zoom will occur on 9/18/24 starting at 9 a.m.

Nursing Scholarship Recipients Meet Donor
The first recipients of the Josephine Douglass Nursing Scholarship were awarded by her son, Jim Douglass. Jim shared the story of his mom and her nursing career with the students and encouraged them to be bold in the nursing profession like his mom was.

Re-affirmation of Accreditation Third-Party Comment Form and Date of Focused Site Visit
Save the date: our re-accreditation site visit has been scheduled for the week of September 22, 2025;
Individuals who wish to make comments on the institutions that are undergoing review in the current semester and that are being considered by the Commission at its next meeting, should use the Third Party Comments Form and be sure to include their name, address, phone number, and email address. The comments must be received five weeks before the scheduled peer review team visit.

Fishponds of Hawai'i: An Art Exhibit by Carol Araki Wyban

Join us as artist Carol Wyban presents her art work that is being permanently housed in the Kikuchi Center. Her art features Native Hawaiian fishpond and mythological themes, and was inspired by Dr. Kikuchi's research. Pupus and refreshments will be available in the library, LRC 102 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Save the Date - Computational Thinking Hui: A collaboration between UHWO and Kaua‘i CC
Monday, October 14
2:30-5:30 p.m. over Zoom (Zoom details will be provided closer to the date)
Two panelists, Kari Noe (UHM Office of Indigenous Knowledge & Innovation; Linkedin) and Angela Marquez (U of AZ; Linkedin) will be sharing how they integrate Indigenous cultural competence and computational thinking skills into their practice and instruction.
The session will cover their background, defining computational thinking, intersection of culture and technology, challenges and opportunities, community and collaboration, ethics and indigenous data sovereignty, innovative applications, educational pathways and mentorship, looking to the future, personal inspirations and influences, and a call to action.
All instructional faculty can and would benefit from attending as these skills can be integrated into every possible course and program (academic, non-academic, and CTE).
We hope that you can join our hui!

Princeville Moʻolelo: “Ka Pae ʻĀina O Hawaiʻi Nei”
Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 5-6:30 p.m.
The Friends of Kauaʻi Wildlife Refuges Princeville Moʻolelo free lecture series is offering a very special presentation by Kumu Hula Kehaulani Kekua of Halau Palaihiwa O Kaipuwai and artist Kathleen Ho. “Ka Pae ʻĀina O Hawaiʻi Nei”, is a culturally centered educational program and a community created mosaic mural that is being offered by the Garden Island Arts Council. Join us in learning about the program and how to be further involved in future workshops, helping to create an 80-foot-long by 4-foot-high mosaic mural that depicts the entire Hawaiian Archipelago. The presentation is from 5-6:30 p.m. in the Princeville Community Center and will also be available via Zoom.
