National Preparedness Month is an observance each September to raise awareness about the importance of preparing for disasters and emergencies that could happen at any time.
Every business has unique vulnerabilities and weaknesses. Knowing which disasters are most likely to affect your business can help you to return to operations faster. A back-to-business self-assessment can help you to assess your risks for common hazards such as hurricanes, wildfires, flooding, or even cyberattacks.
Business leaders and employees can do a lot to prepare for the most likely hazards they will face in the workplace.

ELDER ABUSE: COMBATING INJUSTICE
By Annie Walters
Social Security Public Affairs Specialist in Nevada
Elder abuse is the intentional mistreatment or harming of an older person. An older person is
defined by the Social Security Act as someone over age 60. This abuse takes many forms –
including physical, emotional, and sexual harm, neglect, and financial exploitation. More than
1 in 10 older adults experience some form of abuse each year. That number is likely much
higher because elder abuse is often underreported– especially in underserved communities.
Abuse victims typically show emotional and behavioral red flags, such as depression, unusual
fear or anxiety, or intentional isolation. Many victims are abused by someone they know or
trust. It’s important to look for unusual changes in behavior around:
Family members.
Staff at inpatient facilities.
Hired or volunteer caregivers.
People in positions of trust like doctors or financial advisors.
You can also help make a difference by checking in with older loved ones. Looking for

Did you know there are ways to volunteer at a food bank without leaving your home? Check out these six virtual volunteer opportunities that may be available with your local food bank.
While many food banks and food pantries still welcome volunteers with extra safety measures, some of us may prefer to help from the comfort of our home. Becoming a virtual volunteer is a great way to give your time and talent where food banks need it most. All you’ll need is an internet connection, a virtual volunteer orientation, and your passion.
Because every food bank and food pantry has different needs during the pandemic, we encourage you to contact your local food bank and ask how you can be the most helpful during this challenging time.
Here are some of the virtual volunteer opportunities that may be available with your local food bank or that you can suggest to your food bank’s volunteer contact:

How to protect yourself and others during the pandemic
When it comes to the novel coronavirus, experts agree that everyday actions such as wearing a mask and staying home if you're sick are key to slowing the spread of COVID-19. But there's more. Here are 25 steps that doctors, experts and public health organizations recommend to protect your health — and the health of those around you.
The Basics
1. Wear a mask. When you are around people who aren't part of your household — in public or not — the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing a non medical-grade face covering. Fabric masks and coverings can be purchased or fashioned from a variety of household materials — like this no-sew, DIY version from a sock.
2. Stay 6 feet from others. Social distancing isn't always easy, but it's another CDC recommendation. Whether you're at a local park or a grocery store, keep your distance from other people in public. Why? It helps slow the transmission of COVID-19, which is thought to spread mainly when respiratory droplets from an infected person's mouth or nose land in the mouth or nose of someone nearby.

The COVID-19 Vaccine is available to all people experiencing homelessness, age 18 and older! Vaccine Clinics are being hosted on a weekly basis for the next few months to ensure that our homeless community members have access to the COVID-19 Vaccine. Getting vaccinated is the best protection from getting sick, becoming severely ill, and protecting your community living in close quarters .Next Up: April 14th at Catholic Charities (1501 Las Vegas Blvd . North Las Vegas, NV 89101) 11am-1pm.
