Our thoughts are with John, Diane, Phil, and the entire Riehm Produce Farm family. We are relieved to hear that everyone is safe after a massive fire impacted their property Saturday night. Knowing the Riehm family, their resilience and strength will see them through this adversity.

As a community, we must support Riehm Produce Farm in their rebuild. Together, we will help them come back stronger than ever. The Riehm's Roadside Stand will continue their normal hours of Monday through Saturday, 10 AM to 6 PM, and Sunday, 11 AM to 6 PM.

In July 2023, Governor DeWine signed a bill that expanded the sales tax holiday to allow tax-free purchases of tangible personal property costing under $500 per item. Ohio’s sales tax holiday has been expanded to 10 days from midnight, Tuesday, July 30, 2024, until 11:59 pm, Thursday, August 8, 2024. During the sales tax holiday, certain goods that cost $500 or less per item, may be purchased tax-free online and in-store, and are not limited to school supplies and clothing. Be mindful of exclusions to the sales tax holiday:

  • The sales tax holiday excludes tangible personal property over $500, watercraft or outboard motors, motor vehicles, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, vapor products (as defined in R.C. 5743.01.), or an item that contains marijuana (As defined in R.C. 3796.01.).
  • Services such as repairs, construction contracts, and other services enumerated in Ohio Revised Code 5739.01(B)(3) are excluded.
  • If taxable and exempt items are sold together for a single price, the entire price is taxable.

  • If a discount (including coupons or loyalty points) reduces the price to $500 or less, the item will qualify for the exemption.

Seneca County Fair Celebrates Opening of Small Animal Pavilion

The Seneca County Senior Fairboard is excited to announce the completion of a new 12,000 sq/ft small animal pavilion. This modern facility will house poultry, rabbit, and goat projects, featuring excellent ventilation, a 24' ceiling fan, and LED lighting, along with an additional show ring.

This new building replaces two older structures from the 2023 fair: a 5,000 sq/ft poultry and rabbit barn, originally a race horse barn, and a 3,000 sq/ft open-sided building that evolved from storing feed to housing goats.

Significant support made this project possible, including a $10,000 grant from The Andersons, individual donations, and funds from reverse raffles and a Holiday Lights drive-through display. The Jr. Fairboard and species departments also contributed to the project.

The pavilion will be available for rent from spring to fall and may be used by The Tiffin Flea Market, serving as storage in winter. The fairboard extends heartfelt thanks to all who contributed, including contractors Clouse Construction, Clouse Electric, Grant Decker Construction, A&D Excavating, and Morlock Asphalt. Special thanks to the Jr. Fair Foundation for donating the ceiling fan and flower planters, and to Nate Lucius and Steve Shiley for installing water lines and hydrants.

Good luck to all of the participants this week for the Seneca County Fair! To learn more about the Seneca County Fair, click here.

Heritage Day Featuring the St. Wendelin Festival this Weekend

The much-anticipated Heritage Day featuring the St. Wendelin Festival is set to take place this Saturday, July 27, from 11 AM to 11 PM, in downtown Fostoria. This exciting event, now in its fourth year, is a collaboration between the Fostoria Area Historical Society and St. Wendelin Parish, bringing together a variety of activities that promise fun for all ages.

St. Wendelin Parish had a longstanding tradition of hosting a weekend festival on its high school grounds, but this changed with the closure and demolition of the school in 2017. The partnership with the Historical Society has since revitalized the festivities, with many local businesses and organizations joining in to support the event. Click here to learn more.
