Arts festival celebrates springtime 

Cobb PARKS will hold its first Spring Arts Festival 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., Saturday, April 6, at the Jim R. Miller Park and Event Center in Marietta. More than 100 vendors are signed up to display their wares and talents at the event. There will also be food trucks and entertainment for all ages including a magician, acrobats, glass blowing, Atlanta Falcons cheerleaders and mascot Freddie the Falcon. Solar Eclipse

Several Cobb County libraries will hold solar eclipse watching events Monday, April 8. Details of activities vary by location, but each will provide a place to view this rare celestial event. 

  • 1:45 - 4 p.m. West Cobb Regional Library, 1750 Dennis Kemp Lane, Kennesaw. One pair of protective viewing glasses per family. Live streaming TV viewing of the eclipse via the NASA channel. Crafts for the whole family. Click here for details.

  • 1:45 - 3:30 p.m. South Cobb Regional Library, 805 Clay Road, Mableton. Protective viewing glasses will only be distributed during the viewing party. One pair per person. Click here for details.

  • 2 - 4 p.m. Switzer Library, 266 Roswell Street, Marietta. Registration is required. Can guarantee one pair of protective viewing glasses per group. Crafts and activities. Click here for details.

Book Fest comes to Powder Springs

 Book Worm Book Fest, running April 8 - 13 in downtown Powder Springs, will feature more than 25 authors and diverse events.

Organized by The Book Worm Bookstore along with Powder Springs Library and City of Powder Springs, the Book Fest offers activities for all ages throughout the week, fostering literary engagement and community bonding.

Public Safety Academy gives residents inside look

Are you interested in learning about the entities that protect our community? Join the 2024 Citizens Public Safety Academy, starting Tuesday, May 7, at the Cobb County Public Safety Police Training Academy at 2435 East-West Connector, Austell.

During this 16-week course, the Department of Public Safety will help participants gain advanced and specialized knowledge about the Cobb County Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Animal Services, and the E-911 center. Classes will be conducted every Tuesday evening. Graduation will be held during the final week.

Available spots are limited. To join the academy, interested residents should live or work in Cobb County and be at least 21 years of age. Applications are due by 3 p.m. Friday, April 29.
