ETHOS FARM TO HEALTH NEWS

"Every forkful is a vote for how we can heal the planet, how we're going to heal our bodies."

- Sara Farley, Senior VP, Rockefeller Foundation

We wrapped up yet another successful Farm days event in September where Peter Singer, Rich Roll, Sara Farley, and so many other distinguished speakers helped underscore the importance of the work Ethos Farm to Health is doing. You can hear their comments in the video here.

The work we do is only possible with your continued support as you continue to be our partners in healing ourselves and our planet and we would be grateful if you could take 2 minutes to fill out our year end survey here:

I Support Ethos Farm to Health

All Fields Now Certified Organic

The fields where we grow the wonderful produce you pick up at the Doctor's Farm Market, April - November, have been chemical free since 2012 and were certified fully organic in 2018. For a few years we've been partnering with the USDA's Natural Resource Conservation Service on the remaining fields, planting native grasses to restore and build health in our soil and water system and to provide natural, native habitat for all manner of wildlife. We are happy to say that as of this year all our fields are now certified organic and are under regenerative management practices. The ecosystem is being restored and in return biodiversity is beginning to flourish!

We are supporting nature in all forms: soil, microbes, insects, live nests, helping us seal in a healthy, regenerative future that all our Farm Days speakers talked about.

Development of Infrastructure

New High-tunnel in progress

Thanks to your support during Farm Days 2022 and grants from the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), this is one of the 30' x 96' high tunnel that is getting constructed.

New seed-starting greenhouse

Our first one ran out of space, and thanks to all donor your support. These structures help us start seeds in February and March and are critical for the extension of the growing season.

We are growing, slowly but surely, however, true regenerative, organic farming cannot yet compete financially with giant, distant, corporate chemical agriculture. What we so carefully produce and sell will not yet support itself, nor the many educational activities that expand our healthy impact. We really do get by with a little help from our friends!

So, please consider continuing to support our mission.

We get by with a little help from our friends!

ETHOS PRIMARY CARE NEWS

Ironman Competitor and Ethos Primary Care Patient - Katy Roberts

Here, in Katy's own words, is an account of her participation in the first-ever-all-women Ironman World Championship in Hawaii this past October:

"I participated in the first-ever all-women Ironman World Championship in Hawaii this past October!

I started doing triathlons in 1991 because I enjoyed all different sports, and combining three looked like a lot of fun.

In 1999, I did my first Ironman (2.4-mile swim, 112-mile bike, 26.2-mile run), and since then, I have finished 22 Ironmans.

Over fifteen years ago, I removed dairy from my diet since I am also a researcher and professor in the health education field and was concerned about the association between dairy and breast cancer. I noticed more energy and fewer digestive issues. Then, two years later, in 2010, I went completely plant-based, along with my husband.

I started working with Dr. Weiss at Ethos Primary Care four years ago because I was looking for a doctor who focuses on preventing diseases through the promotion of healthy behaviors and lifestyle choices. Dr. Weiss has had me track my food intake, reduce salt, and focus on meeting my protein needs through various foods, including hemp seeds, chia seeds, edamame, and beans.

I have no aches and pains and attribute a lot of that to a healthy, plant-based diet. In Hawaii, I enjoyed every moment. I had so much gratitude for being there. It was my dream to qualify and compete in the World Championship. Sometimes dreams do come true…24 years after my first Ironman, I got to run down that finish line in Hawaii.
