Calculating Race Needs

Dave McGillivray

Saturday, December 14- 10:20 A.M. - 11:20 A.M.

How do new and old events determine how many shirts, medals, toilets, refreshments, and other items to order? Event directors don’t want to run out, but they also don’t want to waste money. Some events have developed some basic equations, while for some “seat of the pants” decisions are the norm. What happens – and what are the costs - if you miscalculate?

About Dave:

Founder/Owner President, DMSE Sports, Inc. and of the Dave McGillivray Finish Strong Foundation, Inc.; Race Course Director, B.A.A. Boston Marathon and race director of numerous other major events.

AI Impact Today and Tomorrow

Doug Thurston

Saturday, December 14- 11:45 A.M. - 12:45 P.M.

What ramifications does this technology present? What are the benefits and what are the potential perils? What are the financial aspects? This is a complicated area, and many event directors are clueless. This session will attempt to demystify AI.

About Doug:

Race Director of various events since the mid-1980's, including: Tulsa (OK) Run, Columbus (OH) Marathon, Big Sur Marathon, many Rock 'n' Roll events and the 1992 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials. Editor of Oklahoma Runner Magazine (1984-1989); nominated for RRM Race Director of the Year in 1992 and 2020.
