A Mother's Lens:
Big O is a wonderful, compassionate soul with a love for singing, drawing, and socializing. His journey began with challenges, being born with a club foot that required multiple surgeries and extensive physical therapy. Despite these early hurdles and a later autism diagnosis, Big O's determination never wavered. With the steadfast support of his family, dedicated doctors, and caring teachers, Big O thrived in high school, earning the nickname "Big O."
A turning point came with the intervention of Spectrum Support coordinators. Their tailored assistance and advocacy helped Big O manage behavioral challenges and provided the support needed for his growth. Aida expresses deep gratitude to Laura Junta, Corrinne Stegner, Corinne V, Rachel Baldwin, and Nicole Bryan for their exceptional dedication and patience. Their efforts have been crucial in ensuring a positive environment for Big O and many others in the community.
The Supportive Touch of Spectrum's Support Coordinator:
Big O's journey towards independence highlights his determination and the invaluable support from his loved ones. Aspiring to live independently, Big O embarked on the self-direction path with his DDD services. His mother played a vital role in securing a housing subsidy and finding a suitable apartment, while his support coordinator connected him with a Community Based Support Agency for daily living assistance.
After meticulous planning, Big O moved into his own apartment, marking a significant milestone. Though the initial days were challenging, Big O faced each obstacle with positivity and determination. Now, months into his journey, Big O enjoys the freedom of independent living, mastering daily routines and making his own choices.
