Board of County Commissioners


  • The BoCC approved the minutes from the regular meeting on April 17, 2024.
  • Commissioners approved a proclamation declaring May 12-18, 2024, as Police Week.
  • The BoCC approved a proclamation declaring May 5-11, 2024, as Professional Municipal Clerks Week.
  • Commissioners proclaimed May 2024, as National Tennis Month.
  • The BoCC accepted the resignation of Craig Hubbard from the Wichita/Sedgwick County Food and Farm Council.
  • Commissioners reappointed Al Besser to the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Advisory Board.
  • The BoCC appointed Jennifer Chambers to the Emergency Communications Community Advisory Board.
  • Commissioners denied a zone change from Rural Residential to General Commercial, subject to Protective Overlay #432, at 8191 South Meridian Ave. to permit a vehicle storage yard.
  • The BoCC approved a zone change from Rural Residential to Single-Family Residential at West 45th Street North and North 167th Street West, in the Colwich Area of Influence.
  • Commissioners approved conditional use requests for (1) rock crushing and (2) mining and quarrying on the west side of South West Street, near 47th Street South.
  • The BoCC approved a zone change from Single-Family Residential to a Planned Unit Development to allow commercial office use in the area of East Harry Street and South 127th Street East.
  • Commissioners approved Metropolitan Area Building and Construction (MABCD) fee waivers for approved Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) projects.
  • The BoCC denied $2,452.85 in property tax relief for a Homestead property destroyed by fire in January 2024.
  • Commissioners adopted a resolution nullifying a Reinvestment Housing Incentive District (RHID) in Goddard, Kansas.
  • Commissioners approved recommendations from the Board of Bids and Contracts’ meeting on May 2, 2024, except Item 4 – Emergency Vehicle Equipment. It was deferred to the May 22 meeting.

Night Shift Workers Day


May 8 is National Night Shift Worker’s Day – a day (or night) to show our appreciation of those working the night or third shift. These individuals work tirelessly through the night to ensure the world keeps running smoothly while the rest of us sleep.


Here at Sedgwick County, we have over 450 night shift workers! Because of your sacrifices, we all rest a little easier. We thank them and applaud their dedication!

Correctional Officers Appreciation Week

There’s no better time to show our appreciation for the incredible individuals who dedicate their lives to keeping our detention facilities safe and secure. Mental Health Awareness Month

Applications Open for Supervisor Training Series


Sedgwick County Human Resources, in partnership with the WSU Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC), is excited to announce the opening of enrollment for the Summer 2024 Supervisor Training Series.

 

The Supervisor Training Series (STS) is intended to help current supervisors grow skills in Communication, Teamwork, and Facilitation, among other things. STS features seven, full-day classes on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting on June 13, 2024. See the attached schedule for further information. We do request that before applying you review the schedule to ensure you’ll be able to attend most of the sessions, as we cannot offer make-up sessions at this time.

 

We are accepting self-referrals, as well as division or department referrals, for current supervisors who have not previously participated. If you are interested in joining us, please review the application by clicking HERE. You may notice a few small changes to the application, please double check that all necessary fields are filled out prior to submittal. The application must be submitted to Zoe.Sisco@sedgwick.gov no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024. We have only have space for 30 participants, so to avoid the waitlist, be sure to get your applications in early!

How to Report a County Building Emergency


If you notice a facility-related emergency at any County owned buildings during non-business hours, please call 316-660-7777. Courthouse Police monitor this number 24 hours a day and will notify Maintenance. Outside phones can dial this number, including your cell phone.


An emergency could be a running toilet, faucet, or other water-related situation that may cause damage or waste energy. Suspicious activity or hazards may also be reported using the same phone number. During regular business hours (Monday – Friday 8 a.m.- 5 p.m.), minor concerns or repairs should be sent to Facilities Maintenance at 316-660-9075 or Maintenance@sedgwick.gov.
