Board of County Commissioners

 

  • The BoCC approved the minutes from the regular meeting on May 1, 2024.
  • Commissioners approved separate proclamations declaring May 19-25, 2024, as Emergency Medical Services Week and National Public Works Week.
  • The BoCC accepted the resignation of Peter Cook from the District Three Citizens Advisory Board.
  • Commissioners accepted the resignation of Blake Mumma as Union Township Clerk and appointed Clements Stroot to fill the vacancy.
  • The BoCC reappointed Tom Page to the Access Advisory Board.
  • Commissioners appointed Sharon Van Horn, Daniel Alderson, Hunter Hill and Melissa Webb to the Emergency Communications Community Advisory Board.
  • The BoCC appointed Rev. Dr. Pamela M. Hughes Mason and Benita Chaplin to the Community Corrections Advisory Board.
  • Commissioners appointed Kim Vonblon to the Mental Health Advisory Board.
  • Dr. David Guo from Wichita State University’s Hugo Wall School of Public Affairs presented 2024 Mini MPA certificates to 11 graduates of this year's program.
  • The BoCC approved a zoning change from Single-Family Residential to Two-Family Residential and Multi-Family Residential with Protective Overlay #431. The protective overlay includes conditions requiring landscaping and custom development standards. The applicant and associates are proposing to develop the site as a housing development. It is located in the area of South Greenwich Road and East Harry Street.
  • Commissioners received and filed the 2023 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.
  • The BoCC approved the submission of a grant application for $302,018 from the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the FY2024 Formula DNA Capacity Enhancement for the Backlog Reduction (CEBR) Program.
  • Commissioners accepted a $500 donation from The Williams Companies, Inc. for Sedgwick County EMS.
  • The BoCC amended the Sedgwick County Code relating to Parks, Lakes and Recreational Facility rules.
  • Commissioners adopted a new policy for Community Program Funding Requests.
  • The BoCC approved recommendations from the Board of Bids and Contracts’ meeting on May 16, 2024.

  • The Governing Body of Fire District 1 approved the minutes from the regular meetings on April 17 and May 1, 2024.
  • Commissioners approved recommendations from the Board of Bids and Contracts’ meeting on May 16, 2024.

Closed for Memorial Day


Sedgwick County Offices will be closed Monday, May 27 for Memorial Day. Emergency services will be available by dialing or texting 911.

National Public Works Week


Celebrate National Public Works Week! This week we recognize our many Public Works employees and say thank you for all they do to keep our community safe and improve our quality of life. The Public Works Department plays a vital role in drainage improvements, environmental services, household hazardous waste and noxious weed control throughout Sedgwick County.

In the month of May we take time to reflect and celebrate the important role that Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) have played in our shared history. This video tells the story of two sisters working for Sedgwick County, whose parents met in the Philippines under unusual circumstances.

Older Americans Month


In May we observe Older Americans Month (OAM). It's a time to recognize older Americans' contributions and reaffirm commitments to serving the older adults in our community.


The Sedgwick County Department of Aging is a local service available to older adults 55+ and individuals with disabilities in Sedgwick County in an effort to assist them in maintaining independence.

The next Sedgwick County Budget Roundtables is June 4! This will allow the community to learn about the State of the County and provide feedback on core services and spending priorities before the 2025 Recommended Budget is presented on July 10, 2024.

Learning Management System Anniversary


Look who’s grown! You, of course! We are celebrating one year since the launch of our Learning Management System, and you all have done so well! To celebrate, we’re launching a one-year program, touching on various areas you’ve grown in this year.


Starting today, we have twelve sections that will be available for 30 days each, focusing on all of the topics you all have learned to love. Communication, Emotional Intelligence, and Resilience, just to name a few. Those who complete all twelve hours of training will be eligible for the Professional Development Certificate. We hope you join us for this fabulous celebration of growth and development!

Aging Community Survey


We need your input! Central Plains Area Agency on Aging has launched it's 2024 Needs Assessment Survey where they ask people of all ages to share their thoughts on the available services for adult 60+ and caregivers in the community. Additionally, they are seeking input on services that may be needed to help us plan for the future.

Mental Health Awareness Month

Applications Open for Supervisor Training Series


Sedgwick County Human Resources, in partnership with the WSU Public Policy and Management Center (PPMC), is excited to announce the opening of enrollment for the Summer 2024 Supervisor Training Series.

 

The Supervisor Training Series (STS) is intended to help current supervisors grow skills in Communication, Teamwork, and Facilitation, among other things. STS features seven, full-day classes on alternating Tuesdays and Thursdays, starting on June 13, 2024. See the attached schedule for further information. We do request that before applying you review the schedule to ensure you’ll be able to attend most of the sessions, as we cannot offer make-up sessions at this time.

 

We are accepting self-referrals, as well as division or department referrals, for current supervisors who have not previously participated. If you are interested in joining us, please review the application by clicking HERE. You may notice a few small changes to the application, please double check that all necessary fields are filled out prior to submittal. The application must be submitted to Zoe.Sisco@sedgwick.gov no later than 3 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024. We have only have space for 30 participants, so to avoid the waitlist, be sure to get your applications in early!
