Dear Camp Young Judaea Midwest Families,

This week was Maccabia (color war)! After a "fake out break out" on the beach, the real break out followed, and we entered the world of Shrek and friendly competition. The energy was great, and everyone even managed to get their voices back for the Wednesday night talent show, which featured acro dance, musical instruments, and even solving a Rubik's cube on stage!

We had some wonderful visitors this week, including Noa Gerassi, the community shlichah/emissary for Milwaukee, who did a lunch and learn on current events in Israel. Rabbi Josh Cahan, with whom I went to school, is working on a new Young Judaea siddur/prayer book. He joined us for daily tefilah/prayer and meals, where our staff and campers enjoyed giving him feedback on what they like about our current siddur and what they would change. We also welcomed Rabbi Betsy Forester from Madison for her first visit to CYJM, and we are planning to visit her back in early fall. Her son, Rabbi Benjy Forester from Anshe Emet in Chicago, is scheduled for a visit during the second session.

This week, Machon went on Tiyyul/camping, with the hike-backers almost beating the van, and Ofarim, our youngest edah, went on Tiyyul at the end of the week. Also featured in my photos above was our second camp BBQ night, this one in perfect, crisp Wisconsin summer weather.

This week we read parshat Shlach Lecha and focus on the importance of being optimistic. With Taste of CYJ campers extending their time at camp and almost every Noar Aleph camper with permission to stay longer opting to stay for the full session, we have a lot to be optimistic about as we continue our summer. Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom!

With CYJM love,

Rabbi Hannah Wallick
