Feb 25: Catholic Climate Covenant

Catholic Climate Covenant helps U.S. Catholics respond to the Church’s call to care for creation and those most affected by the climate crisis. Grounded in the Church’s history of teaching on creation, ecology, and the most vulnerable, the Covenant creates programming and resources to help US Catholics, parishes, and schools reduce their carbon footprint, and preserve and sustain our common home.www.catholicclimatecovenant.org

Care for Creation Corner - Energy Tips for the Winter

Take Advantage of Heat from the Sun

  • Open curtains on the south-facing windows during the day to allow sunlight to naturally heat the home, and close them at night to reduce the chill from cold windows.
  • If you have outside space where you live, be certain to plant deciduous trees on the south facing side of the home, especially in proximity to windows. They will let the light and warmth in the windows during the winter and will shade the windows in the summer

Cover Drafty Windows

  • Use a heavy-duty, clear plastic sheet on a frame or tape clear plastic film to the inside of window frames during the cold winter months. Make sure the plastic is sealed tightly to the frame to help reduce infiltration.
  • Install tight-fitting, insulating drapes or shades on windows that feel drafty after weatherizing.

Blessing Bag Project

The Social Justice Action Committee (SJAC), together with Family Faith Formation (FFF), invites all parishioners to donate essential items for a "Blessings Bag" project. The bags will be given to our neighbors who may find themselves in particular need. A resource card listing local food pantries/soup kitchens as well as uplifting messages from FFF youth will also be included in the bags.

The Blessings Bags will be kept at each church for Hospitality ministers and staff members to distribute, as well as at the Oratory office. Parishioners are welcome to take a few to give to those in need. By purchasing these items from our Amazon wish list you can help us reach our goal of 200 bags. Your donation will be sent to the Oratory office. Please only buy the exact items on the list. We will not be collecting items in the back of either church; however, you are welcome to bring donations to the parish office.
