Walk MS Walkers and Volunteers

Walk MS Seattle

Date/Time: Sunday, April 21. The site opens at 8:30 a.m., and the walk starts at 10 a.m.

Location: Gasworks Park, 2101 N Northlake Way, Seattle.

Ages: Families with children are welcome to either volunteer or walk.

Time Commitment: Varies, depending on the volunteer position.

Walk MS brings together passionate people from communities across the country to change the world for people affected by multiple sclerosis. Together, we drive progress to achieve our vision of a world free of MS. Each year, thousands of people across the country join the Walk MS volunteer team. From planning event details and stuffing packets to cheering at the Finish Line, Walk MS would not be possible without volunteers. Your family can help in a number of different ways. Or, you can make a difference by signing up and walking on walk day!

The best volunteer opportunity for families with children 12 years old or younger would be to volunteer at the Start/Finish Line to cheer on walkers as part of The Spirit Team. We have a ton of cheering material for volunteers and volunteers are encouraged to dress in bright colors and fun costumes. Whatever role our volunteers play, we’ll make it fun and meaningful. Some of our other critical opportunities are:
  • Setup (6–10 a.m.) Help staff set up and decorate the Walker Village Area at the Gasworks park.
  • Event Tear-Down (11 a.m.–2 p.m.). Help staff wrap up and clean up the event site.
  • Route Marshalls (9 a.m.–1 p.m.) Directing participants at key locations on the route.
  • Event Greeter (8–10:20 a.m.) Welcoming participants and directing them to the appropriate areas at the event site.

Learn more here.

Ages: Families with children five years old and older are welcome to volunteer. The youth waiver form must be signed by a parent/guardian for volunteers younger than 18 years old.

Volunteers will participate in fun, hands-on conservation work led by staff from DNDA's Nature Team. Restoration work includes removing invasive plants, planting native species, and mulching new plantings, depending on the restoration progress in each site. Working out in the elements requires the right apparel. Long pants and closed-toe shoes are required.
  • Bring any water or snacks you might want during the volunteer event. For safety reasons, we will not be able to provide any refreshments.
  • If you have your own pair of work gloves, you are encouraged to bring them. If you don’t, that’s okay; we will have some for you.
  • All volunteers under 18 years old participating without a parent are required to bring a completed Youth Waiver Form.
  • Please note that most sites do not have a bathroom present.
