Dinner and a Movie Series
January 20 through March 31, 2015

This series continues in 2015 with the 8th year of environmental films not normally seen in the mainstream cinemas.  They will be presented in a "mid-screen format" (smaller than theater but much bigger than a large screen TV) following a hearty wintry feast in our dining room.

Each film is selected on the basis of a thought-provoking environmental topic or for breath-taking cinematography.  A discussion on the environmental themes and implications presented in the movies will follow.

Join us for a fun enlightening evening.   Click here for a complete listing.

Cost:  Dinner $15 per person.  Save $6 by purchasing a season pass for $84.  The movie and discussion are free.  Register deadline is one week before each program.

Yoga and the Niyamas... the path to joy
January 30 through February 1, 2015

Yoga is a practice designed to bring more awareness to both the body and mind. The theme for our retreat will be the second limb of yoga, the Niyamas. The Niyamas can point us in the direction of something more than we are aware of now. We have five seeds to plant and care for in our inner being: Purity, Contentment, Self-discipline, Self-study, and Surrender. We will explore these seeds (Niyamas) plus practice Hatha yoga, build community, and have fun!

Instructor Bio: Gigi Heinz's teaching style is infused with passion and energy. She enjoys connecting with her students and sharing her love of yoga. She has a BS in Health Promotion & Wellness from UWSP, is an RYT500 with Yoga Alliance, and has recently completed certification as a Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapy.

Native American Flute Carving Workshop
February 27-28, 2015

Flutes are designed based on an individual's anatomy. Each flute is personal and has its own personal song the owner must find. Not only will you have the satisfaction of making your own flute, you will be given instruction on how to play it.

Participants will construct their flute from a piece of cedar. Each crafter will determine the fundamental note and bring life into the flute. The crafter will determine finger hole placements and make the flute "talk".

Once the flute has its voice, the individual can find a place of seclusion to meditate and find the song hidden inside. Inspirational playing or writing down the song is up to the individual. The opportunity to play your personal handcrafted flute along a lakeshore or under a forest birch tree can sooth the Coyotes, or you might even have a Great Horn Owl or Loon sing along with you!

No musical experience is required. All you need is the willingness to work with your hands, exercise your fingers and experience a form of cultural art indigenous to the North American continent.

Most materials are furnished but you will need to bring an x-acto knife and blades. Two blades, number 11 and 17, are required.  A variety pack includes these two blades. A sharp pocket knife is recommended but optional.

Workshop instructor, Tom Gustin, has been making a style of Native American Flutes by hand for over twenty years. He will talk about making a flute from a piece of wood, parts of the flute, things to look for in a flute, types of wood used by Wisconsin residents, and different uses of the instrument. Tom will display some of the flutes he has crafted. Each flute has a story.

Overnight Package: $150 (Includes two meals Saturday, double occupancy lodging Friday night, kit and instruction)

Commuter Package $120 (Includes one meal, kit and instruction)
