Our parents, Yvonne and Del, made their mark in FLB history in many ways, but expanding the campground was definitely one of them. We were not part of the Volo Village until 1993, so prior to that we were under Lake County's supervision. Rules were different in those days and our parents learned skills that allowed us to move forward with expansion with minimal outside help. Del was the plot designer, who drew the plans that went to the county for approval. Mom and YC learned to use the transit level. Randy and Don Reis were the two main laborers, with additional help from local youth.....and we had an old backhoe!
These pictures were taken in the late 70's and show us putting in the drain field to the west on the N sites and across from the M and R sites.
(Upper Right Corner)-The picture with the larger road on the right starts at campsite N30 looking east towards N16. The M sites and Adult Rec Hall would eventually be on the right side of the road. We had supplies sitting there getting ready to put in a septic field.
(Upper Left Corner)- That's our Mom ready to shoot transit. The trailers behind her are part of the R section.
(Lower Right Corner)- The picture of the man digging the trench with his backhoe. Steve was from a local well and septic company that is still in business today. Randy was feeding the drain field hose to a helper. That was a good day...there were 4 guys, Mom and YC working!
(Lower Left Corner)- The last picture shows two backhoes...ours and the septic companies and all the guys trying to plan the next step.
It's rare to have pictures of jobs we just took for granted in those years. YC always had a love for taking pictures and that's how we have these four.
