Addressing Beach Erosion at Tower Beach

Tower Beach has experienced substantial beach erosion due to significant wind and wave action, storm surges, and tide cycles. Temporary repairs have been made at Beachwalks #13 and #14, but these areas are currently not wheelchair accessible, and assistance may be needed for visitors with limited mobility.

Sea Pines CSA will be working with the Town of Hilton Head, DHEC’s Office of Ocean and Coastal Resource Management, and engineers to develop short and long-term strategies to mitigate the impacts of erosion, protect the coastline at Tower Beach, and improve wheelchair access. Regular updates on the progress of the project will be communicated with the community.

Maintenance Projects & Services

Tower Beach Restroom Facility Maintenance: Next week (3/4-3/8), the Tower Beach Restroom Facility will undergo deep cleaning and repainting. Please note Sea Pines CSA staff will need to close one restroom at a time to complete this essential maintenance work.

Tree Care Management: Annual tree trimming along Sea Pines CSA-managed Beachwalks is in progress (pictured) and will take approximately 3 weeks to complete. Beachwalks will remain open, but we ask that pedestrians and bikers use extreme caution and pay attention to flagmen on-site.

Roadway Asphalt Repairs along Lighthouse Road near Glen Eagle Lane, Water Oak Drive, and Mizzenmast Lane to begin next week.

Stormwater Repair: Drainage pipe end cleaning behind Pixie Lane and a drainage pipe repair along Royal Tern Road will take place next week.

The Benefits of Removing Pine Straw from Your Roof

Tips from the Community Standards Department: While it may seem harmless, letting pine straw accumulate on your house can lead to a variety of problems. When fallen pine needles accumulate, they create a thick layer that traps moisture which can penetrate your roof's shingles, leading to rot and decay. Clearing pine straw from your roof can also improve the efficiency of your gutters and drainage system, ensuring that rainwater is properly diverted away from your home. Additionally, removing debris from your roof can enhance the overall appearance of your home, giving it a clean and well-maintained look. From preventing damage to improving curb appeal, taking the time to clear away pine straw is a worthwhile investment in the maintenance and longevity of your home.
