The draft Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment report is available for public review and comment. This critical document is funded by a Resilient Florida grant and is key to shaping the future of our city's resilience strategies.
Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessment This important assessment provides a comprehensive analysis of how sea level rise may impact City of Miami Beach assets, with projections extending to 2040 and 2070 based on NOAA data. Developed by our consultant, AECOM, the report evaluates potential impacts on our city’s critical facilities and infrastructure, considering factors such as sea level rise, groundwater, rainfall, and storm surge. The assessment is both quantitative and qualitative, including advanced compound flooding modeling and an analysis of our community's social vulnerability.
The findings from the assessment will be used in tandem with previous plans and studies to develop a comprehensive Adaptation Plan to enhance our city's resilience to sea level rise and coastal flooding through the year 2100.
The public comment period has been extended through September 13, 2024. We strongly encourage all residents, stakeholders, and community members to review the Vulnerability Assessment and share your insights and feedback. During the development of the report, the city has provided community members with opportunities to share their experience with flood risk in their neighborhoods. Over 160 community members participated through focus groups and pop-up workshops throughout 2023. Your input on the report will ensure this document continues to reflect our community's needs and priorities, guiding future grant applications and resilience efforts.
To date, the City of Miami Beach has successfully secured over $79 million in Resilient Florida grant funding. The insights gathered during this comment period will be instrumental in securing future funding and ensuring that our city continues to be at the forefront of resilience planning.
