Presuit Settlement for College Student
Injured in Car Crash

Our client, a 19 year old college student at Nassau Community College, was a passenger in her boyfriend's car which was traveling on the Meadowbrook Parkway when it was involved in a collision with another vehicle.  The impact occurred at a very high rate of speed and as a result, our client was badly injured, even though she was wearing her seatbelt and the car's airbags deployed.  As a result, our client sustained a fractured to one of the vertebrae in her spine. She was brought by ambulance to the hospital, where emergency spinal surgery was performed, consisting of a discectomy and spinal fusion.

A flexion fracture, also known as a compression fracture, occurs when the front of the vertebra breaks and loses height

Spinal fractures can vary widely in severity.  There are different types of spinal fractures. Doctors classify fractures of the thoracic and lumbar spine based upon the specific pattern of the fracture and whether there is a spinal cord injury.  The three major types of spine fracture patterns are f lexion, extension and rotation fractures. Our client suffered a flexion fracture, also known as a c ompression fracture, that occurs when the front of the vertebrae breaks and loses height, and the back part of it does not.

Fred Schulman, Esq. settled our client's case prior to litigation for the maximum amount of available insurance.

Lawsuit Against Driver of SUV

Schulman Blitz, LLP 's client was riding his bicycle on 31st Street in Astoria when he was struck at an intersection by a SUV.   As a result, our client sustained fractures of his facial bones and his clavicle.  Justin Blitz, Esq. settled the case for a confidential amount shortly before trial was scheduled to begin.
$90,000 for Bus Driver Rear-Ended By SUV

In September, 2013, Schulman Blitz, LLP's client, a 51 year old bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority, was driving her regular Coney Island bus route.  She had stopped at a bus stop to pick up and discharge passengers when the bus that she was driving was hit in the rear by a SUV.  As a result of the crash, our client sustained multiple injuries, including torn ligaments in her knee, for which she underwent arthroscopic surgical intervention. Our client was also caused to miss a significant amount of time from work as a result of her injuries.  After winning our motion to have the court determine, as a matter of law, that the defendant was completely responsible for the collision, Stephanie Mastrocola, Esq. settled our client's case for $90,000.
Settlement for Pedestrian Injured when Two Police Cars Crash at Intersection in Bronx

Two NYPD vehicles were responding to an emergency situation when they collided at an intersection in the Bronx.  As a result of the collision, one of the vehicles was propelled onto the sidewalk and struck our client who was waiting to cross the street.  Our client sustained injuries to her lower back.

Schulman Blitz, LLP
associate Thomas J. Schiro, Esq.

Thomas Schiro, Esq. was able to settle our client's case against the City of New York within a year of the incident occurring for an amount which fairly compensated our client for her injuries.

Fred Schulman's Medical Malpractice Treatise
Gets Its Most Recent Update

Fred Schulman's widely respected treatise, published by Law Journal Press (a division of American Lawyer Media), is a primer for medical malpractice attorneys throughout the country.  Mr. Schulman updates the book twice a year, with new statutes and case law, so as to remain on the forefront of medical malpractice litigation.

The book treats a case as a continuous process, from the initial client interview to the closing argument. It offers comprehensive coverage of the cutting-edge issues such as the right to conduct  ex parte interviews of treating physicians, caps on damages in medical malpractice cases, qualifications of expert witnesses (the locality rule versus the national standard) and the "date of discovery" rule for purposes of statute of limitations.

Mr. Schulman recently submitted the next update to the book to the publisher. The update will be distributed to subscribers in the fall of 2016.  The book is available in hard copy, online, and as an eBook
