WEEK OF JUNE 25, 2024

With June nearly gone, we hope you have had time to relax and recharge during your summer break. We know many of you have remained busy, whether it be taking trips with family, participating in professional development, leading summer sessions with your district, or working on certifications.

The Kane County Regional Office of Education staff has been busy as well, and we have been fortunate to spend much of this month with you. There is much to recognize that has already happened and future opportunities to share!

Hundreds participate in countywide reunification training

Last week marked the start of our reunification training sessions at Christ Community Church in South Elgin. Originally designed by the I Love U Guys Foundation, this training covers the logistics and responsibilities of school districts when having to reunify families with students following a crisis situation.

Once we conclude this week, hundreds of participants will have gone through these simulations. Thank you to the district staff who helped lead the presentations and walkthroughs for this training. This was the first year that representatives from Kane County conducted these exercises for colleagues, and it was wonderful to see participants engaged. Thank you also to the emergency response staff from around the area, including Kane County Emergency Management, who joined us for these simulations and for being part of a countywide, collaborative effort to build a safer, more prepared Kane County.

Thank you to our Tech Bash attendees

It was a successful day of collaboration, reunions, idea sharing, and reflecting on the school year at the 2024 Tech Bash earlier this month. It was wonderful to see district technology staff and tech enthusiasts at all stages of their careers interact and gain some valuable tools for keeping students and staff safe in the digital world.

Topics of the day included cybersecurity, digital citizenship, device management, AI, and others. We thank our school district colleagues and community partners that came to share their knowledge with guests, and we hope these conversations benefit your work heading into next school year!

Tuesday Tech Tip returns!

As we are knee deep into summer, we are all undoubtedly spending more time outside. However, children may also be spending more time on their devices.

Online safety is a top priority for the Kane County ROE, and we are diving into the Meta Family Center in the return of our bi-weekly Tuesday Tech Tip! Click below to hear from Phil Morris, our Director of Operations and Technology, and the options available to families through this Meta resource and how it can help build toward a safer, more structured experience for teenagers on Facebook and Instagram.
