Kane County ROE hosts Health Life Safety training

Last week, staff from regional offices across Illinois joined us for Health Life Safety (HLS) inspector training.

ROE staff are tasked with inspecting all school buildings within their coverage area annually to ensure compliance with health and safety standards. These reports are then filed with the Illinois State Board of Education and shared with school districts.

The Kane County ROE is proud to be a leader in guiding HLS inspection standards in Illinois, and we thank Geneva CUSD 304 for allowing us to hold a walkthrough demonstration at Geneva High School as part of this training.

Shutterbugs assemble! The start of the school year means our annual Student Photography Contest is around the corner.

This contest celebrates the creative talents of high school students in Kane County, as well as the knowledge handed down by their instructors. Each week, submitted photos will be reviewed by staff at the ROE. The top 10 photos will be selected and published on the ROE’s website, in newsletters, and through social media channels.

The contest will run from Monday, September 16 - Monday, November 18, with our annual Photography Contest Reception to follow on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at The Dock (150 First Street, Batavia, IL). All featured photos from the contest will be on display and the top photo and student photographer from each week will also be recognized and receive an award!

Interested high school teachers should contact Kourtney Lipps (klipps@kaneroe.org) to participate.

Navigate your library management system with confidence

Next month, the ROE will host two workshops designed to assist library staff with management through the Destiny Library system: one for beginners and one for advances users.

The beginner session will familiarize new staff with navigating the software and help systems, setting up loan periods, calendar and site configuration, circulating to the patrons, cataloging title and copy records, and more. A survey will be sent to participants in the advanced session shortly before the workshop to gather topics of most importance.

Both groups will come together in the afternoon for further learning, including setting up and using the Destiny Discover interface and other advanced features for cleaning up the library catalog.
