Professional Learning Edition 

One Week Until Chancellor’s Conference Day, Thursday, June 6! 

NYCPS teachers can register for webinars on numerous topics including vaping prevention, culturally responsive teaching, netball, social emotional well-being, coaching, soccer, relationship health, flag football, and many more!

Sessions are first-come, first-served, and space is limited—so be sure to secure your spot for up to three sessions as soon as possible.   


  • Session 1: 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. 
  • Session 2: 10:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. 
  • Session 3: 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. 

 

American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation is available by request during live sessions. Please email WellnessPD@schools.nyc.gov (opens in email tab) by Thursday, May 30 if you require interpretation services.

Health Education

Reminder to Health Teachers and School Leaders: Complete HIV Lessons by May 31  

The new Growing Up and Staying Safe: New York City K-12 HIV Education Curriculum (opens in new tab), launched in 2023, is skills-based, student-centered, age-appropriate, and culturally responsive, with updated content that reflects advances in HIV prevention and treatment guidelines. 

 

Per New York State law, HIV lessons must be administered annually to all students in grades K-12. Students in grades K-6 must receive five lessons per year, while students in grades 7-12 must receive six lessons per year. HIV Lessons must be completed and reported in STARS by Friday, May 31. Physical Education

Calling All Secondary PE teachers! Strong and Fit - PE Instruction in Weight Rooms and Fitness Centers 

Register for this full day, in person professional learning opportunity and learn high-quality instructional approaches for providing safe, effective Physical Education in weight rooms and fitness centers. Attendees receive a sample pacing guide, exercise progression chart, weight room posters, and other resources aligned to the New York City Grades 6-12 Physical Education Scope and Sequence to support standards-based weight room instruction.

NYC FITNESSGRAM Reminder – Enter Assessments by June 14 (Deadline Extended) 

Schools must complete height and weight assessments for 100% of students in all grades, and the additional fitness assessments for at least 85% of students in grades 4-12. Enter all assessments by June 14 in the NYC FITNESSGRAM web application (opens in new tab).  


  • Teachers can complete the 3-hour CTLE eligible, self-guided Fitness Education and NYC FITNESSGRAM (opens in new tab) course on WeLearnNYC anytime. This course provides additional information on fitness education, helpful strategies and tips for administering assessments, and access to the web application upon completion.
