Class 6 Rocks!
Mark Lewis

On Thursday January 16th Mr Lewis and Mr. Aghasaryan took Class 6 on a wonderful adventure to the Natural History Museum. We were there to explore the Gems and Minerals exhibit as part of our Mineralogy
block. We saw so many AWESOME examples of the types of minerals, crystals, and gems we had been studying for the prior 3 weeks. It was quite amazing to see nature in action like that, and give even more depth to our study of Mineralogy.
One of the coolest things we found was a giant mural of The Rock Cycle on one wall -- that looked almost EXACTLY like the chalkboard drawing we had transferred into our Main Lesson books!  Wow!
Valentine Recital
February 13

Dear City School Community!
Our Valentine's Day Concert and is coming up on Thursday, February 13th at 3:00 and promises to be a lovely affair as always, with good music and food for everyone to enjoy. This wonderful tradition was begun by our own Ms. Schroeder and is a unique opportunity for City School parents and teachers to showcase their talents.
Western Waldorf Educators Conference
A Wonderful Opportunity

As I mentioned in our last newsletter, the February break provides an opportunity for teachers to attend this amazing educator's conference.

This year we worked hard to obtain using Title II funding and are delighted to be able to send three of our teachers, Mr. Gonzalez, Ms. Kayti and Mrs. Agasarian, to attend.

We wish them a wonderful journey and look forward to hearing some highlights from their conference when we return from break.

Parenting Reading Group
With Sharyl Henry
sunrise

Our Waldorf parenting reading group meets every other Tuesday. In February we will meet on the 11th and 25th from 1:00- 2:30, upstairs in the Gothic room (Mrs. Anastas' 4/5 classroom). We have been discussing rhythms in our homes, for both daily life and for celebrations, as well as studying Simplicity Parenting by Kim John Payne.  All are welcome!

Scrip
Set up an Account Today!
Scrip is an important way to help our school get the funding it needs. It costs you nothing extra, but can make a huge difference to our budget. While any individual gift card might not seem like that much money by itself, when our whole community uses it, it really adds up!

Only a few families have signed up so far and we need your help to make this program work for our school!

If you have not done so already, please take the time to set up a family account by going to www.shopwithscrip.com and setting up a family page. Simply click on the green link for Family Sign Up, located at the left of the page and enter your information. On a subsequent page, you will be asked to enter our school code: 97E144BA18899. It only takes a few minutes to set up. You can have friends and family members set up their own page as well.

Once you are set up, with the push of a few buttons, you can order gift cards from the convenience of your own home. With the ScripNow! feature, some vendors even give you the option to print at home, saving you time and the school shipping costs. Check out special deals, where companies may be having sales or giving a higher than usual percentage to the school.

If you have any questions, please contact our Scrip Coordinator, Dawn Stevens by phone at (818) 859-9453 or email stevenstrio@yahoo.com.
Annual Giving

Thank you so much to all those families who contributed. Your donation makes such a difference to our school! Although our official annual giving period is over, it is never too late to donate.

Also, please take a moment to send your friends and family a link to our
Annual Giving Page, which beautifully explains more about our school.

If you have any questions, please see Laura Watkins, or contact her at (818) 231-4974.
Hot Lunch
Tuesdays
Class 6 is hosting a fundraiser for their class trip each Tuesday. Support their efforts and enjoy a healthy hot lunch for grades children. $3 each or $2 for additional siblings. Please bring your own bowl and fork. We are sorry that no IOUs will be accepted, but if a pre-paying option would be more convenient for your family, please contact Kira Taylor at ((213) 595-2656 or email kira_taylor@hotmail.com.

Bake Sale
Thursdays

Class 6 will continue hosting a bake sale fundraiser, but the day has changed. Please note that the day of the week has changed! Look for the bake sale on Thursdays at 2:30. All items are still just $1.
Town Hall Meetings
First Tuesday of Each Month
The next Town Hall Meeting will be held on March 4th at 3:00 PM in the Assembly Hall.

The College of Teachers and Faculty members are eager, ready and interested to entertain questions and receive comments from you, the parents of our school community, and have scheduled the first Tuesday of every month at 3:00 PM for this purpose.

PLEASE NOTE, that, for this to happen, Liane Anastas (College Chair) needs to receive an RSVP at lianeanastas@gmail.com or a call at 818-886-2238 with agenda items no later than the Friday, February 28th.

Please do not hesitate to contact Liane, as we warmly welcome your

suggestions, questions, and comments.

Strings
Don't forget your instruments!

Please remind students to bring their instruments for class on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students must also remember to take their violin, or cello home each day.

The school is not responsible for instruments left on the premises.

Eurythmy
Coming in March

Eurythmy is a form of movement unique to Waldorf education, which originated  with Rudolf Steiner. It has many benefits, both individually and socially. It can help a student with posture, their developing sense of space and harmonize movement.

The City School will be enjoying a visit from Rima Meadows, a skilled Eurythmy teacher, who will guide all of our students, from preschool through the grades, for a block of Eurythmy lessons.

Eurythmy "...strives to make, through an archetypal 'alphabet' and 'language' of gestures and movements, the archetypal gestural nature of sound, be it speech or music, visible." -- Aurthur Pittis
