Family Prayer

Palm Sunday of the Lord’s Passion

Reading I : Isaiah 50:4-7

He opens my ear that I may hear.

  • The first reading from Isaiah is taken from the third "Song of the Suffering Servant."
  • It shows us the disciple whose faithfulness is based on fidelity to God.
  • Although the passage was originally written about someone else, when we read this passage we immediately think of Jesus.

Reading II : Philippians 2:6-11

He emptied himself, taking the form of a slave.

  • The second reading from Paul’s Letter to the Philippians is a quotation from an early Christian hymn that proclaims the meaning of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
  • Even though Jesus was God, he obediently accepted the humiliation of the cross, and God raised him in glory.
  • Paul’s challenge is to make Jesus’ attitude our own.

Gospel : Mark 14:1-15:47

The passion of our Lord Jesus Christ.

  • The Passion story from the Gospel according to Mark shows Jesus to us as the suffering servant portrayed in the prophecy of Isaiah.
  • Mark places Jesus’ suffering and death in the context of the Passover meal which draws on Jewish theology.
  • In Mark’s account of the Passion, Jesus is alone with no one to comfort him as he approaches the ultimate sacrifice.

Snow

Snow is forecasted for tomorrow. A reminder to send your child with boots, snow pants, gloves, and a hat. We will be going outside for recess and only students with boots and snow pants will be able to play in the snow. Students without boots and snow pants will only be able to play on the blacktop. Please send your child ready for the weather so they may enjoy the snow at recess.

Phones

There was a question about phone use after school and at what time students may be on their phones. Students may not be on their phones while on school grounds. This includes using the internet, texting, or phone calls. If students are waiting for choir, a club or practice to start, phones are still off limits. Students can talk to each other. Phones should remain in the students' backpacks until their parents pick them up.

If the student asks a teacher for permission to contact someone for a ride or other need and the teacher approves use of the phone the teacher will monitor the situation.

Catholic Youth Rally

Our 6th -8th grade students attended the Catholic Youth Rally hosted by Arise MKE at Carroll College on March 15th. It was an opportunity to encounter Christ, not only with their classmates, but over 1700 other Catholic students from across Wisconsin. The worship band, The Scally Brothers, performed throughout the morning and their positive message of faith was shared with all in attendance. The entire day was engaging and moving. The most powerful moment may have been when all in attendance participated in Adoration. Powerful! It was great to see our young people celebrate their faith throughout the day.

One Percent Prayer

Take 1% of your day to get to know Jesus better. Hopefully, many of us are taking more time than 15 minutes throughout the day to know Jesus better. Included in today’s folder is a card to assist us to increase our time in prayer. The card includes 30 daily scripture passages and a 15 minute process to engage in more prayer. Remember, we pray as we live because we live as we pray. Please continue to share the wonderful gift of prayer with your children.
