Letter from Principal Young

Dear OLOL Families,

The Night of Keys is this week-end. I hope that many of you can join us at the National Railroad Museum this Saturday at 6:00pm. Please join us in celebrating with friends, families and stakeholders of OLOL Catholic School. Thank you to all of you that have bought a Key raffle ticket, made calls to sponsors or past ticket purchasers, made donations, or have assisted in any way. Your dedication and support of this event will make an great impact on our students.

Special thanks to our chairs, Nicci Zwiefelhofer and Sarah Lawler. The OLOL community is very appreciative of your efforts in preparing for this event.

I would also like to thank Mrs. Thill and our friends at Schneider. They purchased some new office chairs for one of their departments and Mrs. Thill arranged for us to receive some of the old office chairs. They are very comfortable and the teachers appreciate the new chairs. Thank you Mrs. Thill and Schneider.

This is Vocations Awareness week. Our 8th graders participated in the first Green Bay Diocese Vocations Fair today, which we hope will become an annual event. The vocations fair was held at St. John the Baptist. Hopefully our 8th graders learned there are many different ways that we can serve Christ and the Church.

One of our OLOL families also participated in helping our Church in the area of Vocations. The Compass featured an article about how parishes and individuals are spreading the word about vocations. The Silva family prayed as a family for an increase of vocations. You can read the article HERE. Thank you Silva family.

The Lourdes Way,

Jeffrey Young

Congratulations to the winners and thank you to all students who are learning how to be self-disciplined.

Counselor's Corner

From Mrs. Kielpikowski

We are nearing the end of the first trimester at school! We hope your families have had time to enjoy the beautiful fall colors.

I wanted to share some things that we are doing in my Guidance classes. This Saturday, November 13th, is World Kindness Day. World Kindness Day is an international holiday that was formed in 1998, to promote kindness throughout the world and is observed annually on November 13 as part of the World Kindness Movement. It is observed in many countries. In your child’s class, we will be talking about kindness either this week or next. Many classes are doing activities related to kindness. Ask your child about what they did in class. I would love to hear what acts of kindness they did next time I see them in Guidance.

We have provided a chart of kindness ideas that you can print and have your child color the acts of kindness they complete.

CHART OF KINDNESS- Print for your child to track their acts of  kindness.

News from the Classroom

US History

Industrial Revolution

The 8th Grade Social studies curriculum is US History. The students are currently learning about the Industrial Revolution.

What better way to learn than with a project where students share their knowledge with one another.

The Industrial Revolution was a time of change during which items were made by hand to creation with the use of machines.

Computer Science for All

Second grade learned about programming using BeeBots.

The BeeBot can be programmed to go forwards, backwards, turn left, and turn right.

The 2nd graders learned what it means to "debug" (fix) a program, how to design a program, and how to run a program.

It's not as easy as it sounds! It took several tries to get our BeeBots to move to the correct letters to spell our spelling words!

The students in grades 4-8 have been learning what is digital citizenship.

  • Be kind
  • Use privacy settings to protect their information
  • Keep a list of accounts in a safe place.
  • Use strong passwords
  • Minimize what you share.
  • If you see something that is not good digital citizenship or makes you feel uncomfortable, notify a adult you trust (parent, grandparent, teacher or sibling).

Parent Hints/Tips

for your children

  • Monitor your child's media use.
  • Approve/review the accounts you wish for your child to use.
  • Review the terms and conditions. Is it age appropriate? Is their personal information safe?
  • Manage the child's accounts and passwords at home.
  • Monitor your child's accounts.
  • Protect your child's digital footprint by what information you share on social media accounts.
